The City of Santa Rosa, or Lungsod ng Santa Rosa, is a first-class city found in the province of Laguna in the South Luzon (CALABARZON) Region of the Philippines.  It lies 38 kilometers south of Manila access via the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX).  Roadways linking Santa Rosa with the surrounding areas of Laguna, Batangas and Muntinlupa are the Old National Road, Santa Rosa-Tagaytay National Road, San Lorenzo South Avenue, Technopark-Ayala Westgrove Avenue, and the Laguna Boulevard.  Available public transportations in the city are buses, jeepneys, taxis, and tricycles.

Santa Rosa has been dubbed "The Investment Capital of South Luzon" because of the presence of numerous multi-national companies and industrial parks in the city.  Some of the international companies found here are Filsyn, CIGI, the largest plant of the Coca-Cola Company, Philippines, and the assembly plants of Nissan Motors Company, Toyota Motor Corporation, Honda Motor Company Isuzu Motors, and Mitsubishi Corporation.


Santa Rosa is home to several globally competitive commercial and Industrial estates. These are the Santa Rosa business Park in Greenfield City, Daystar Industrial Park in Barangay Pulong, Meridian Industrial Complex, and the Laguna Technopark in Barangay Don Jose.

The latter was the first industrial park to be established in the country. It was a joint venture of Ayala Land, Inc., Mitsubishi Corporation, and the Kawasaki Steel Corporation.  Found in this 300-acre complex are numerous international companies, such as Fujitsu Ten, Toshiba, Henkel, International Distillers, TDK, and Hitachi.

Greenfield City is a 300-hectare aggregation of industrial, commercial, and residential estates.  Found here are the Santa Rosa Business Park, Laguna Central Business District, Greenfield Industrial Park, Santa Rosa country Market, Paseo de Santa Rosa, and the Greenfield Automotive Park, of which 25% of its 65-hectare area is used by Ford Motors Philippines, Inc. for its manufacturing facilities.

Catering to light and medium industries is the Meridian Industrial Complex.  Housed within its 25-hectare complex are industries producing electrical parts, insulators and adhesives, construction, medicine, soap, and furniture.

Because of the numerous automotive, electronics, and semiconductor companies in the city, Santa Rosa has been dubbed as the “Silicon Valley and Detroit of the Philippines”. In 2005, it ranked in the top 20 of the Philippine Cities Competitiveness Ranking Project, which was conducted by the renowned Philippine business school, the Asian Institute of Management (AIM).

Because of its proximity to Metro Manila, the numerous exclusive residential developments, the presence of many prominent private schools, and its enormous potential for business, commercial, and industrial growth, Santa Rosa is quickly gaining a reputation as one of the best cities for relocation outside of Metro Manila.

Residential Places in Santa Rosa

Santa Rosa is renowned for housing some of the most impressive and affluent residential developmentsoutside of Metro Manila.  One of these is the South Lake Village found in a business, commercial, and recreation estate called Eton City.  South Lake Village is a residential development reminiscent of master planned cities, like that of Dubai.  It features a 150-hectare of residential enclave, a 35-hectare lake, and 18 Man-made islands measuring a hectare each.  Lots in various locations within this residential development are available, with the exclusive option to buy an entire island.

There are other residential developments found in the city, which are often referred to as subdivisions and villages.  Some of these are Laguna Bel-Air, South Forbes Golf City, Santa Rosa Estates, Ayala Westgrove Heights, San Jose Village, and Santarosa Village, which are all found in Barangay Don Jose.  Barangay Market Area has the following villages: Dia Leyco Subdivision, Don Pablo Subdivision, Zeramyr Subdivision I, Mercedez Homes IV Subdivision, Ciudad Grande, Grand Riverside Villa, Saint Rose Village 1, Rosario Homes, and Satellite Ville.  The communities of Metrogate, Anros Subdivision, Progressive Village, and Cataquiz Subdivision are all found in Barangay Tagapo.  Barangay Balibago, on the other hand, has Villa Caceres and La Joya Subdivision, while Barangay Malitlit has Casan Residenzia, Villa Susana, and San Lorenzo South.  San Lorenzo Royale, Villa Esmeralda, Villa de Toledo, and Roseville Subdivision are found in Barangay Dita, while the Lakeshore and Zeramyr Village are found in Barangay Macabling.

Hospitals and Universities of Santa Rosa

Located at the Greenfield City in Barangay Don Jose is the prestigious South Luzon Hospital and Medical Center (SLHMC).  The first of its kind in the region, SLHMC is a tertiary care hospital that boasts of medical and diagnostic facilities at par with Metro Manila based hospitals, as well as of accommodation standards like that of a 5-star luxury hotel.  It is housed in a 7-storey structure with a 150-bed capacity and 40,500-m2-floor area.  In addition to the different medical departments and units, SLHMC also houses a Wellness center, which is founded on three points—medical tourism, Integrative Medicine, and Corporate Medicine.  The Wellness Center strives to provide services for health maintenance and alternative healing methods, such as acupuncture and herbal medicine.

The other hospitals and clinics found in Santa Rosa are the Santa Rosa City Hospital And Medical Center in (Barangay Balibago, New Sinai Hospital and Medical Center in Barangay Tagapo, Santa Rosa Community Hospital in LM Subdivision, Balibago Polyclinic and Hospital along the Provincial Road in Barangay Balibago, St. James Hospital at Mariquita Pueblo in Barangay Dita, FORTMED Medical Clinics in Greenfield City, and Sy Medical Clinic in Barangay Dita.

Educational Facilities

The tertiary education system in Santa Rosa has institutions that provides instruction and training in various fields of study. One such institution is the Santa Rosa campus of the state-owned Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP).  This PUP campus offers baccalaureate degrees in education, information technology, accountancy, entrepreneurial management, and electronics & communication engineering.  It also offers graduate programs in education, associate degrees in health science education, and an open-university system.

Currently on-going construction in Santa Rosa is a satellite campus of one of the Philippines’ most prestigious and reputable universities—the University of Santo Tomas (UST).  Occupying a land area of 440,000 m2. This satellite campus brings with it the honor and excellence its main campus in España, Manila has been known for.  It is predicted to be a leader in information and communication technologiesand in allied medical sciences in the region.  The UST Santa Rosa campus is set for operation in 2011.

Other colleges found in Santa Rosa include the Sta.Rosa College of Business and Computer on the 3rd floor of the Don Francisco Tan Gana Building in Balibago, Dominican College of Santa Rosa at San Lorenzo South in Balibago, Laguna Northwestern College at the Corithian Center, and the System Technology Institute.

Commercial Places in Santa Rosa

Found in the city are Robinsons Place-Santa Rosa, SM City Santa Rosa, the upscale shopping complex of Paseo de Santa Rosa, and Waltermart in San Lorenzo village in Balibago.  These establishments are the city’s main venues for shopping, dining, and entertainment.

The first two are branches of Robinsons Malls and SM supermalls, two of the largest chain of shopping malls in the country.  They commonly carry their anchor of department stores, supermarkets, appliance centers, cinemas, and foodcourts.  In addition to these are numerous boutiques, specialty stores, service shops, and eating establishments that ranges from casual sit-down restaurants to fastfood chains. Restaurants found here include KFC, Pizza Hut, Congo Grille, Mang Inasal, Pancake House, and Rai Rai Ken.  Both shopping malls are located along the National Highway in Tagapo.

Paseo de Santa Rosa, on the other hand, is the commercial component of Greenfield City.  This upscale commercial complex features a list of shops and boutiques, service centers, restaurants and fast food outlets, banks, and venues for trade fairs and mini     concerts.  Some of the restaurants found here are Brothers Burger, Pancake House, Kokomo, and Babycakes Sweet Secrets.

Also found in Greenfield City is the Santa Rosa country Market, which is the first and only first-class wet market in the city.  It provides the same commodities found in the open-air public markets in a much comfortable and convenient setting.

The smallest amongst these is Waltermart in San Lorenzo village.  Nonetheless, it carries several shops and boutiques,service centers, and a few notable restaurants.  Some of the retail and service shops found here are Avon, Collezione, Rusty Lopez, Watsons, Mercury Drug, David's Salon, and LBC Express. Some of the fastfood outlets found here are Greenwich, Jollibee, and McDonald's.

Service Establishments of Santa Rosa

Electricity in the city is provided by the Manila Electric Company (MERALCO).  Formerly known as the Manila Electric Rail and Light Company, it is the largest electric power distributor in the country. It currently holds a central franchise on 22 cities and 89 municipalities.  Applications for service and bill payments may be done by visiting their Laguna branches.

Telecommunication companies servicing   Santa Rosa City are the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT) and Digitel Telecommunications.  Both companies provide traditional fixed telephony and internet connection via dial-up and digital subscriber line (DSL).

Smart Communications, Globe Telecom, and sun Cellular of Digitel Telecommunications are the major cellular telephony providers in the city.  All companies offer postpaid and prepaid subscriptions, and an array   of competitive features.  Postpaid subscriptions may be furnished by visiting their centers located at major commercial centers, while prepaid subscriptions simply require a SIM card, which can be brought at their centers and authorized dealers.

The Santa Rosa City Police Station is part of the Philippine National Police Region IV-A (CALABARZON) District.  It is located in Barangay Tagapo and may be reached through the numbers 837-6501.  Sub-stations and police community precincts are located in every barangay.

There are no foreign embassies and consulateslocated in Santa Rosa city.  The bulk of these diplomatic missions to the Philippines have their offices located in the cities of Makati and Manila in the National Capital Region.
