Hello All. I am a retired American currently living in Istanbul, Turkey. Ancient cities and the ruins are a major "draw" for me and my photography art graphics i enjoy doing -and, I want to live in Athens, Greece, for a period of time.
I just learned that the EU includes a provision in its Charter for non-EU citizens, allowing them to apply for EU passports for "ancestry or naturalization" (in my case Italy)." I have all the USA documents, including my grandparents, my parents and my own (birth, marriage, death certificates) and what remains for me to obtain are the birth and marriage certificates for my grandparents. Further, it is my understanding provision would allow me to live in Greece (I am assuming on some "special residence basis" while waiting for the Italian passport application processing to take place). Can anyone relate to this idea of EU citizenship -living in ONE EU country while waiting for paperwork to be finished and the granting of the "other EU country" passport? If so, please let me hear from you. I am imagining that an EU immigration attorney would be required to achieve this -or, if this step is not needed, I would like to know. Thanks in advance. DMikeyV in Istanbul.
