Makati City, or just Makati, is the 7th largest city in the Philippines.  It has a total land area of 27.36 km² and a total population of 471,379 as of the 2000 census.  The city of Makati is one of the 16 cities and municipality that make up Metropolitan Manila.   It is situated in the Southern Manila District and is bounded on the north by the Pasig River, the Pasig City on the northeast, the city of Taguig and municipality of Pateros in the southeast, the city of Manila in the northwest, and Pasay city in the southwest.
