Calapan City Guide

by moveforward on November 4, 2008

The City of Calapan, or Lungsod ng Calapan, is the capital city of the province of Oriental (Eastern) Mindoro, an island found at the southwestern coast of the island of Luzon in the Philippines.  The province is a component of Region IV-B, or MIMAROPA, which is an acronym for its constituent provinces of Occidental and Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan.  Calapan is situated at the head of Calapan Bay, on the northeastern portion of the province.  It is characterized by wide plains interrupted on its northeast end by the Bulusan Hill which has an elevation of 187 meters above sea level, and traversed by the Biga-Baco-Malaylay and Aglubang-Magasawang Tubig river systems interspersed by wet lands near the coast.  Bordering the city is the Calapan Bay to the north and northeast, the municipality of Naujan to the south and southeast, and the municipality of Baco to the west.  It is located 130 kilometers south of Manila, about 30 minutes away by plane via the Manila Domestic Airport, and 28 nautical miles from the Batangas International Port.
