So basically I'm going to find out soon whether or not I have been accepted for a 3 month internship in the US. I know that it'd be handy to make connections and network or whatnot while I'm there.
So I just joined Linkedin and I was told that I could search for people via their degree subject? For example, I'm currently studying International Relations so I'm looking to find people that have graduated with that degree. But I don't think I can, I don't see an option like that anywhere, does anyone here use Linkedin? Is it possible to search for people via that kind of criteria? Or if not, by their University?
You can search people with free version with any criteria, but contacting them or connecting with them if they are not your first connection requires the premium membership. I believe the basic is like $40 a month.
It is a great tool for getting jobs and connecting with people. In fact, I was hired in my last job as a direct result of being on LinkedIn. Basic premium starts at 19.95
YES - lots of professionals or even under-grads use the LinkedIn.
Its a very powerful platform for our careers.
And its worth investing time - in developing your profile as well building your own network on LinkedIn - it does pay off - at some point in your career.
Its surely worth giving time - just as you do for re-shaping your CV/RESUME.
AND yes - to come to using advanced search features; as someone already has shared in the above posts - you can opt for the basic paid account - which I believe is for 19$ rate !!
Linkedin has many search features and functionality you can use to your advantage and you can search using criteria like people, groups, universities, jobs, post and more. The free option of Linkedin will give you access to basic information but the premium version will enable you search in dept and as well be able to contact them whether you are connected with them or not. You can use the Inmail to message anyone.
You should definitely have a linkedin if you're seeking a professional job in the U.S. You may get an offer just by having a profile if it's done right and you're qualified for a position. Certainly worth your time.
Fully Agree with Travelar.
a sound LinkedIn profile which is created and updated with all the progressive information appropriately will help a great deal in the initial career stages of stay in the US.
