Default Want to move to thailand - what jobs to get?

I love thailand, I've visited a few times, but last time really fell for this one girl. I cannot stop thinking about her, all day or night. I miss her so much, and I know she misses me also.

So i'm thinking of moving to Thailand, and need to get some work there. What sort of jobs are good to get into, I;m pretty good with computers and stuff, maybe I could try teaching for a bit.

Any advice gratefully accepted. or if anyone knows of a good job on offer.

First you have to get a visa and a work permit , cannot work at most things that takes work away from Thais , teaching is poorly paid .
The lovely , enchanting lady , WOW , you met one also EH ? There is an expression , hook , line and sinker , but in Thailand it is normally one-sided , yours . Oh , no doubt she misses you , you have ATM written in indelible ink on your forehead , Falang , Falang I love you everything daling .(kingwilly?)
Be cautious , be alert and get an aids test , 300 Baht at the local clinic .
Colin

IT IS OFTEN SAID THAT EXPERIENCE IS THE ACCUMULATION OF ALL THE MISTAKES YOU HAVE MADE .(caps for emphasis) I was taught at an early age to watch and listen to the other person , that way it is far less expensive , especially in the ego department .Seen them , heard them and watched them cry in thier beer , especially when they had sunk all into this fabulous lady who they were convinced 'Was different to all the others' . Only invest that which you can afford , and most likely will , LOSE , often to the tune of millions of Baht .There are of course exceptions to every rule , but when a bar lady tells you "I love you everything daling " , it should be your first red flag . Have fun , enjoy , enjoy , but ensure it is your head 'Screwed on' , keep the funds to enjoy another day (or two) . Colin

Colin, now you are starting to sound like a Scotsman !
" short arms & deep pockets" !
But at the end of any evening involving a few beers....a pretty face or decent cleavage and you are a sucker ! You just got to get up quick in the morning and get out of there ! But from what I have heard of these types of women, she'll have been up hours before and have your skiddies in the wash....lol !

The ladies usually accompany the man to his room , up hours before doing the wash ? Most of these ladies can (and often do) sleep 12 hours straight, and Thais hate work , like real work .

I really hate to do this, but I'm with Colin on this one. I spent five months in Chiang Mai listening to the young and old 'crying in their beer'. I've seen women take over businesses and watched the men tell their tales about how their girlfriend's mother needs an operation, the roof is leaking in the family home, and the younger brother has a chance to go to a really good school if they can just come up with the tuition. I've heard a guy with no money, who warned the girl ahead of time, get dropped like a hot potato when he couldn't take her out for a nice dinner, and then wonder why he isn't being very 'successful' with the local girls.

There is an English-language magazine that had a whole article about trolling for men with money, and they were talking about girls with educations and decent jobs, not the ubiquitous bar girls.

A real romance there is rare. And if you met her in a bar, be forwarned.

That said, pay can be bad. The most likely way to work is as an ESL teacher. It is possible to get enough money to live on comfortably doing that.

I hear what your saying but she isnt a scummy bar girl, she works in a real job. I'm not one of those looser fat old german men in pattay who have to pay for sex.

But anyways, how would I get work as an ESL teacher then, do you just show up to different schools and ask, which schools have the best rep. Actually i dont like kids that much I'd prefer to teach English in a hotel or to airline staff or somethign like that.

And how bad is the pay, I dont really need much money as I can live a quite frugal life, and I dont mind eating street food, my needs are simple.

do they advertise those jobs in the paper or something?

Who said bar ladies are scummy ? Some are even well educated , but when it comes down to supporting the extended family(usually in a village)it is often the easiest way to achieve that goal .So what is the GF's 'Real job', or am i impertenant to ask
Those fat old Germans in Pataya are actualy helping to support those ladies and thier families , please do not knock it , without them a lot of people would be on starvation diets , allow them to enjoy thier later years whatever way they can , sex is good for the heart , so maybe they can get a few extra years of livable life .
Your frugal life of simple needs could be your downfall (and heart-ache), no money no honey is the general rule , and those that try living on the mere fruits of love , generaly finish up choking the locals chickens with the discarded skins . Slow down , back up and use your brain before you also become a statistic , being young in thailand does not afford you any superiority , the Baht rules no matter what you are seeking .

Tough call Kingwilly. As anywhere else in the world, the jingle of your cash will dictate what you can or cannot do these days. But if you believe you can do it, then take the chance and follow your hearts desire. I came to Thailand for a holiday on my ex's advise to forget the loss of alll......sob, sob, no money, no job, no home, just a bag and 2 grand, passport, tourist visa and another woman was the last thing on my mind. Getting the contract for work is. Anyway mate like you, I met a woman and same same. Could not get her out of my head. Finding a job here.....unless you're well connected, or have lots of baht to open a business, then forget it. Don't give up your day job, or find work that allows you to have 3 to 6 months off a year to spend with your girl. At the end of the day mate you are the driver of your life, steer where you want to head. All things are possible with a bit of effort.
