What is the best place for gathering in 12 Huay Kaew area, Chiang Mai?

So, you are along the 1004 highway, yes? Is it the main part, or where it crosses the 11? I live off the 11, and although there are quite a few places near me, I still prefer to go into town (its only about 4km) - so come along to the Guitarman on Loi Kroh and say 'hi'

I am going to start a thread on places in CM that I think are great for a beer and music and would like others to add theirs to the list...watch this space

KhwaamLap,

Are there hot and cold running damsels in distress or are you 'encumbered' upon arrival and oblivious to it all? Out of a keen sense of survival and an affinity for attached body parts?

Thanks for your response.

I've read about an expat dinner - not sure if it's weekly or monthly but also a great idea. A monthly dinner should include expats and their significant others ie wives, husbands, girl friends etc. where a 'haunt' to meet daily would be fun.

Those with time on their hands could drop by, share a bit of camaraderie with their friends and acquaintances and get the latest 'dope' about what's going on. It shouldn't be structured - just friends getting together. We might try a few places to see which is best from a location standpoint and whether the proprietor is keen for the extra business! Anyone with an idea of a fun place to meet mid-morning, let us know! The more ideas the better. Perhaps give them all a try - heck there could end up being half a dozen mini-gatherings around Chiang Mai.

We all love to eat. I love trying new places. And sometime nice to get away from surroundings and talk about stuff related too outside of Thailand.
Does anyone know if this kinda group exists in Bangkok???

Then not another word.
Did it not work out, or was it so much fun that those attending want to keep it a secret among themselves?

I'd like to see a get-together in Chiangmai, but ...
I try to avoid going out Saturday nights -- too crazy.
I mostly avoid Loi Kroh road at all times -- same reason.
And I always avoid bars with loud, rock-n-roll bands.

If there were a more relaxed location, then I'd be interested.
Perhaps one of the riverside restaurants for a Sunday supper.
Is anyone else interested along those lines?
Perhaps two events, for two different kinds of tastes.

Yes, we're there most Saturday nights. It's a pretty quiet place, not in the Loi Kroh you're thinking of - on the other side of the Night Bazaar Chang Klan road, heading towards the Ping.

Riverside/Goodview restaurants? They've been packed out when I've been there recently, and the music isn't exactly quiet if you end of with a table to close to the stage for comfort. That said the Riverside seems to have been divided into two, with a new restaurant/different name ... ate there one lunchtime recently, seemed ok.

Then there's the Brasserie of course, but by the sound of it, Took's Jimi Hendrix imitations might not be up your street! Were you thinking of anywhere else?

Thanks, Frogblogger, I didn't know the exact location.
The entire night Bazaar/Loi Kroh area I avoid, especially on Saturday nights.

Again, thank you, because I didn't know that either.
A year in Chiangmai, and I've never been any of the famous restaurants along the river -- just seemed like it would be pleasant.

Not in particular, just that there seem to be two types of venues for two types of people:
One is bars.
The other is not bars.
One is loud.
The other is quiet and suitable for conversation.

I was suggesting not bar, not Loi-Kroh, and quiet.
If there are a few people interested in that, a location will be easy to find.
The first question is, are any interested in a quiet, non-bar, location?

There's no need to conflict or compete -- which is why I suggested Sunday night.

The opening post in this thread suggested morning / breakfast / coffee.
That appeals to me too.
Anyone else with that in mind?

There is a third category, you know... those of us that like the best of both worlds!
