Default Seeking employment

I have lived and worked in Spain for 15 years. As a bar manager ( 7 yeras) and as an Administration Manager and PA ( 8 years). I speak Spanish and English. I believe I am good at what I do and can benifit those in need of my services in many ways. I have a fully equipped office at home and would consider any employment offered. I hate being bored and thrive on dead lines and challenges.
I have also designed Administration papework, Catalogues and Exhibition stands for numerous companies. My CV can be forwarded on request. Thank you.

Default Hi Fred

I am going to be totally honest with you, I would advice you to stay in the UK. There is nothing in Spain especially for expats who dont speak Spanish ( I am presuming that you dont). And it is equally hard for the people who do. The days of oportunities in Spain are finished and we cant foresee any changes within the next 2 years. There are no benifits in Spain unless you have worked with a contract (minimum 6 months) and then you have to be lucky. If you drop me a line with your email address I may be able to help in another field. I can tell you that UK electricians qualifications are not valid in Spain. I agree that expats mostly employ expats because of the language barrier but unless you register self employed-Which means taking a spanish course for electricians it will be difficult, and then paying monthly tax for money not earnt, forget it because there are 1000s doing the same. And most expats are returning as employment is scarse.

Sorry but I would not want you to make the mistake many others have made before you.

I am 55 years old and after serving with H.M.F. in the para brigade for 22 years. and then re-training as an electrician.
All we want to do is settle down. I still want to work as I and my wife are still quite fit. I do have an income from the millatary that helps.

Thakks For your advice and help.

Fred, do a search on the Spain forum for jobs, unemployment, moving to Spain etc. Unfortunately, this is not what it was and you're going to read a lot of doom and gloom, but it's better to get the real story, isn't it? My advice would be to wait another couple of years or perhaps think of another country.
Good luck with whatever you decide
