I'm not sure that I agree - can you provide a link to the relevant law please.

Many officials will NOT accept a licence as ID - they ALWAYS insist on NIE/Residencia document and/or passport.

Recently I was asked to show my ID - I flashed my Spanish driving licence and was told that this was useless and had, instead, to show my passport.

If I could quote the applicable law about D/L being valid ID, then I would feel better.
