What sort of camera do you have? I would love to be able to do this but I believe you need a camera with something called 'autobracketting' that takes multiple images at different settings that can later be combined - am I right?

Yes, you need at least three copies of the same image, one under-exposed and one over-exposed. Auto-bracketing is found on most compact cameras these days. I´ve got a Panasonic Lumix FZ48 which is midway between a compact and a "grown-up" camera.

You can also cheat by making two copies of an existing photo and using free photo-editing software like Picasa to lighten one and darken the other. Then drag all three into Photomatix and see what happens.

You can download a free trial of Photomatic Essentials here. Download HDR photography software Photomatix

Some people call it cheating, but at the end of the day its part of digital photography

For instance, the Segovia picture. It was full of people in the square, and when you do an HDR of moving people, you get multi images. So they all had to be removed

You have fun with Photomatix .... its what I use, but you can also do it in Photoshop CS5
There are some dinosaurs who still think digital photography is cheating, and Photoshop is the devil's creation!

Anything that produces images that people like to look at is fine by me.

OK - tried photomatix - should be fun. Now - some quick questions. What size do you take your pictures? Take them big and downsize them for uploading to here? What method do you use to upload them? When I do it using 'manage attachments' I get a thumbnail which you have to click on - all yours go straight to the board - are you all doing something different?

Three options: mine were done with b.

a) upload them to a website like Flickr or Picasaweb and link to them from here using the Image icon on the toolbar. This is the easiest and it doesn't matter what size they are.

b) Create an album on your forum profile page and link to it from here by pasting the IMG link (a bit fiddly, but it resizes the image for you) and they are available to anyone who browses your profile in future).

c) Thumbnail attachments as you describe.
