Renting is a good idea to start with for sure. It gives you a little more freedom than being tied down with a purchase immediately

Hi dikidoodle,
TEFL jobs are available in Spain if you know where to look check the Spanish newspapers. I am moving to Spain in November and will be an E.S.L teacher when I arrive. Are you on a TEFL course or do you already have the certificate? Basically it depends where you go, I have seen a few adverts for E.F.L teachers in Madrid and a couple further south. Renting is deffinatly the best if you don't know which area you want to stay in, also about schools I am no expert on this but I believe you have to register your children for school in May to get a place in September so if your thinking of moving soon schools may be a little bit of an issue, I'm sure that some of the other expats will be of more use to you on this bit.
Hope this helped a little.
Emma

How are you trying to get work ? Wherever you trained should have given you some advice on finding a job. Many language schools have either started for the coming academic year or have got their teachers already. It is unlikely you will be given a contract whilst still in UK, but not impossible. If you plan on starting work next year then fair enough, but if you want to work asap then you are leaving it a bit late to get organised I think.
Most jobs advertised are in Madrid, Barcelona and Valencia, but every large town has a language school or two so perhaps think what area you want to live in and start asking around.

The International school my kids attend advertises in the Times educational supplement (lots of proper teaching jobs abroad apparently??) and conducts ALL interviews in London. I have a friend, who I actually met on this site (roniebabes, I think was her forum name) who's just started there and says noway wouldnt have come over here hoping, she made sure she had a proper contract and decent job to come to before any commitment on her part. I wish she'd stick her nose in on this site and advise, cos she worked in several schools in several countries and knows the drill, but she's too busy

Jo
