I am looking to move to spain to teach English.

Do you think that it would be best to live in Spain before applying for positions?

Whats the process for getting children into schools out in spain??

JOBS - Quite the reverse unless you have enough cash to keep you going a GOODISH duration whilst hunting - a year to be safe. Find one - then move. But be prepared to fly for interviews!.

Be aware though - many jobs here are ad-hoc. PAYE and poor rates. Also will tend to be "out of hours" unless you land a high ranking corporate student. Even then can be early or late. We organised lessons for staff when I was managing an IT company in Madrid - lessons 07:00-08:00 once a week. The companies who do a lot of this sort of work have a MASSIVE turnover of staff. To be honest I think they bank on the fact to avoid contractual issues.

I've a mate here who really came to be a contributor for the BBC and who took English teaching of this sort on too. He quickly dropped it as he found he had no real social life as his classes were always when folk finished work - 20:00-23:00.

The places that work best (I'm told) are the schools that concentrate on getting youngsters in early and maintaining them over the years. BUT as the level of English in schools has increased/improved this is starting to drop off. I've a friend close to me who has a small "chain" - he mentioned he may have to close one.

Schools - State or Private?.

If State you really should apply around MAY to be sure of a place in SEPT. You need to be registered in Spain as a RESIDENT and be on the PADRON where you live. This all takes time.

Schooling is obligatory and they'll always find a place but if you simply "turn up" there is no guaranty it'll be near to you.
