Default Registering Kids in School

We're moving to Valenicia, Spain in January and I'm curious if anyone has some advice on getting the kids into school. We have five kids (16, 13, 11, 7, 5) with no spanish language training. I'd prefer to enroll the kids in public schools. Do the public schools accept foreign (American) students? Is there a cost? Do I just show up with their visas?

I think baptism by fire is the best way to make friends and learn the language. We plan on living in Spain for at least 1 year...maybe longer. To make sure they don't fall behind their friends in the States we'll probably supplement with some home schooling too.

Thanks,

Brent

I think you need to give us more information about passports, will you be here legaly?, etc., I think the 16 year old is past the school age so he/she would be voluntary, the 3 youngest would pick up Spanish within a few months and the 13 y.o would feel very unsettled, And Jan is in the middle of the school year here.
Just a few thoughts off the top of my head, give us more info. Regards Rob

We'll have US passports and Spanish residence visas so we'll be completely legal. Public schools accept students in the middle of the school year right?
