Default Sky+

Hi guys

New to this forum, just starting to look at getting out of the UK and off to Spain. You may laugh at my question, but is Sky + easily installable? I have come to really rely on it here and would be heartbroken if not usable over there! The place we are looking at buying has sky HD installed already I know that much.

I may well have loads of really rubbish questions - it's funny because you ask what you think is a sensible question to somebody and they laugh, yet something you would think is 'the norm' is a no goer so I am just gonna ask

If you have Sky HD in the new place, you will probably have to get a satellite engineer to come and rewire for Sky + for you. Our house had normal sky and we got the engineer to make it Sky + and it cost 60 euros and was a simple job I think.
Remember not to let sky know you have moved abroad if you have a subscription. Give them another address in the UK (a friend or relative?) and you'll be able to use the box and card here. Oh, and if you have any package that you don't think you'll want in Spain, get it changed before you come as its a real pain doing it after. You can't call them from a Spanish number and you can't downgrade your package online, only upgrade.

Yes, it is easy. It is technically illegal, but everyone has it. Just ask a neighbour who has a dish - everyone knows someone. You can also have it set up for your own local BBC - eg I have BBC1 and 2 Wales in Spain. If you're going to Marbella, I have a very good guy there.

Couldn't see my reply - but yes, it is easy. Just ask a neighbour with a dish, theyw ill know someone. It is technically illegal, but they set you up with a false UK address (or you can use a friend's). Everyone has it, despite illegality. They can even set you up with any local BBC channels (I have mine tuned to Welsh!).

thanks all, my mum lives in Spain (miles away from where we are hopefully off to) and she has taken her normal Sky box with her in the same way as you suggest. Maybe I will just change the address to hers I may even just do post forwarding for the first 6mths anyway as I always seem to forget SOMEBODY when I move!

And I guess there is no such thing as a Spanish Autotrader? The best place to browse for an up to 5yr old 4x4? (we will be living rural)

If the place you are buying is already wired for Sky HD, then its a simple case of attaching the cables to the Sky+ box.

If the SKy HD has been wired correctly, it should already have two cables from the dish to the Sky HD box, and therefore , assuming the current owners are taking the sky HD box with them, you just need to connect the 2 satellite cables to your box, plug for power and scart cable from the sky+ to the tv. No need to call anyone out or get charges for simply putting in 4 cables....

Only if you want sky+ in another location will you need to get an engineer out to relocate the cables.
