Hi All

To be honest Im not an expat yet
I might well become one one day........but our first step is to buy a place
in Spain........probably in the Denia area........possibly in a small / medium town perhaps inland a little. But still within striking distance of the coast.

We intend to use the new property for a few months a year as a way of dipping our toe in the water and seeing how we feel about living in Spain.
At this point in time .....I dont intend to rent it out.

There are several things occupying my thoughts before we do a recce
at the end of this month.

Does a lock up and leave appartment make a lot more sense?( More than a house villa)
Is being back from the coast a good idea?
Am I mad thinking of buying over the next few months ( market conditions)
I guess that people are accepting offers on thier properties
lower than they would have a while ago ?
How much crime is there........I seem to be reading about break- ins etc in Spain............how bad is it?

I would really appreciate some views about some or all of these
issues..........and does anyone know a good /nice / comfortable / hotel we could base ourself in while in the area 4 star.....ish

Hi Barry

Denia area i am told is nice , but never been myself.
I am not a flat type of liver myself prefer villas and space , think for holidays a flat is fine but for proper long term living go with the villa with a pool bit of garden space to grow your own fruits and veg, a drive to wash the car and generally live the life u know
Near the coast is best but away from the tourist spots as it will do you head in after a few weeks , say 5 minutes away gives best of both .
A Good time to buy as a buyers market over there .
Crime ask and look around for the signs when over there on your reccie as i dont know .

Search on google for a hotel should be a few .
