So ..... as soon as you are resident in this country you need to apply, usually to your local Police station, for said certificate.

You need to complete Form EX 16 and then queue normally for a very long time. After the form is accepted they will give you a payment slip which you take to the nearest bank. Take the slip back to the Police station and they will issue you with the certificate. The cost is about €6.25, and you dont need photographs. Take your passport and you padron certificate.
Hi I have been told its 65 euros per person whys this ?

Are you using someone to complete the forms for you?
The cost I quoted is correct, so you have been misinformed I guess.

Regret to inform though that after you have been living here for 6 months you will become a Spanish Tax resident and will be liable for taxes here in Spain, not in the UK. Offshore, UK, wherever ... it does not matter. Your taxes will have to be paid in your country of residence, i.e. Spain.

That will include

Income tax: On any income from investments, rents, bonds etc etc
Wealth tax: On your worldwide assets
.
Is this really correct? I did live in Spain for eight years on a pension coming from Switzerland. I do have a NIE #, and all my paperwork is 100% legal. I never had to pay taxes in Spain! I was told" No income in Spain = No taxes in Spain". The same was also during my stay in France and the Philippines. Also, the Swiss do deduct some amount for taxes on my pension at the source. But maybe this did change??? I will look in relevant documents concerning the matter.

I live in Spain
My pension in the UK will be taxed here in Spain, as is the interest on my UK based savings / investment accounts.
I assume that the situation will be the same with Switzerland but you should consult an international tax advisor

Stavinsky, you probably also have income in Spain. Since you can only be taxed in one country, you will pay taxes for all your income in Spain. I do not have income in Spain and do pay the taxes for my pension in Switzerland. There is a tax agreement between the two countries in order to avoid double taxing, and of course also tax evasion. So, since I have no income in Spain, I will not be taxable in Spain. Maybe for England this is different, I do not know. This is a rule, which does exist since a long time, for several countries, and I never heard about a change. But I still will get some official info and let you know.

No .... I have no income in Spain, only from the UK. I had advice from international tax consultaints. I am resident here and have to pay tax here. In fact, due to the allowances I pay no tax here, whereas in the UK I would.

I could not obtain any more reliable information until now, but I did contact a Swiss friend in Tarragona, which is also retired and in more ore less similar financial conditions as myself. He also is not taxable in Spain, because of no Spanish income.. For me it did work like this: I had to make a declaration where it was mentioned that I did my pay my tax in Switzerland. Since it is income of a state pension, I have no choice as to pay taxes in Switzerland. I do not know how this exactly works, but I never had to pay a dime taxes in Spain. I have a NIE and all the other paperwork done properly, including Bank account. Maybe I would also pay less in Spain, I have no idea, but I do not have the choice.

Default residencia and self employment

Hi

I have been informed by a few different people that if my husband and I start our own business and register for self employment we will then be covered automatically by the system and therefore no need to apply for residencia. Can anyone tell me if this is correct as there are lots of different sites with very different advice on!!

Many thanks

Our assets ,which provide our income as neither of us works ,are in offshore banks where interest is deducted under EU agreements. So presumably the situation will be unchanged when we are resident in Spain? We have offshore euro accounts so won't need a Spanish bank account.
Also - is car insurance generally cheaper in Spain? We have a UK registered LHD car bought from a UK company and delivered direct from Mercedes Benz Germany to our home in Prague. We have UK all-year Europe-wide insurance, which cost us nearly £890 a year. Quite a lot!!
We are obviously hoping that insurance premiums will be less if we register the car in Spain. Mercedes provided us with all the required documents so (hopefully) the paperwork should be simple.
Any advice appreciated.
We are currently living in Prague, moving to Marbella area in November.

I must say that this site is very different from the expats board in the Czech Republic. This is helpful, sensible, 'grown-up', unlike the all too often lewd, crude and inane posts on the Czech site.
