Default Annual Fiesta in the Barrio!

It's been on throughout the weekend.....and Sunday evening is when we film the procession for the church.

This is the fourth one we've done.....back in 2006 the procession was enormous.....accompanied by dancing horses.

But over the years there's been less people there every year. This one was very sparse indeed.

It wasn't helped by a Gypsy stabbing incident back in 2007.....but these things happen.

Anyway.....here's a few shots.....

Here's our good friend Juan the priest.....he loves to be on film. He can normally be found in bars talking on his mobile phone!

The stage right outside our house.....music going till 4am!

They walk round the estate and stop outside every house where someone has died during the course of the last year.

So that was my evening....next job is burning off DVD's for Juan the priest and some of the locals!

It's a man's life as El Rey de Los Guiris!

XTreme!! This is a solemn procession! Talk like that is sacreligious!

(...but I could tell you about the drop dead gorgeous penitente who looked liked she should be going to a disco and not walking 6kms bare-foot!)

Sometimes, I wonder whether I will ever understand women! (..or Spain!)

I was expecting photos full of mullet/"wifebeater" vests/bottle swigging/arms bearing gitanos - but they were rather tame!!!

We had the guys round from the local neighbourhood association collecting money for our fiesta this year (end of July - three days). Hubby went to sign the list and make our donation and noticed how much the contributions have dropped this year....guess that's the crisis for you....but it won't stop everyone criticising if the orchestras aren't up to scratch and the churrasco is crap. One thing we have noticed over the past couple of years are the prices of drinks at the bar set up in the campo - now at 2,50 euros for EVERYTHING!!

Another thing about our village's fiesta is the organisation of the family lunch which we (have to) hold every year - we're determined to cut the invitees list down, as we used to cater for around 45-50 people. Not much fun for those in the kitchen (namely me!!) dashing around, clearing plates and setting out the numerous courses (anything below three courses is a no-no and must include a marisco course and two different kinds of roast meats). It's quite chauvinistic (reminds me of Steve's BBQ thread!!) as the women work so bloody hard and don't get to sit down until everyone else hasl finished their coffee and liqueurs....and then they want to eat again a couple of hours later....just to "picar". Where do they fit it all?? Still, family politics will out in the end...and we'll still have to feed the 5000 - just hope the weather is good so they can all remain outside!!

Tally.xx
