Default Advice on Spanish Move from UK...

Hi Guys and Gals,

I am looking for a new life with my wife and two children. We have a number of places in mind but want to long term rent in Spain with reasonably low rates.

I am looking for any advice on schooling, shopping, where to look for a decently priced property and any advice on work available in either the hospitality and catering industry or sales/estate agent work or anything really - thinking about it.

After the year we have had we need a break after the death of my youngest brother, my father having two heart attacks and whilst dealing with my brothers funeral matters - our rented home was sold underneath us in Ireland...we had been living there four years.

Anyway, thats a little of what we have had this year so as you can imagine - we need fresh air and a change of scenary.

I am also a professional Psychic Medium if that helps...lol.

Thanks,

Marty Cia

Sorry to hear of your bad year

Spain is, as you know, a very large country, and I think you really need to decide the area you want to go to before you start on the detail.

In brief, property near the coast in the costas or in the cities is generally most expensive, and as you move inland you get better value for money.

Had you thought of a preferred area?

I've moved this to the Spanish section for you

Hi Marty,
It is very difficult to get work in Spain. Spanish people don't want to employ the English and wages are very very low. Yes the cost of living is lower than the UK but you need to think very carefully. If you wont have to get a mortgage then maybe you'll manage. I was a very highly paid IT Project Manager in the UK and the last job I applied for was for 4 Euros an hour!!
BUT money isn't everything and we love it here, there are a lot of spiritual people here, so if you want to give it a go, we have a property near Guardamar you may want to rent.

QUESTION ALL is on a distinguished road
Default Long lets - beware

Hi,
Just to let you all know - not sure it's common knowledge yet. Have it on excellent authority from lady working in the council. New law passed mid last year on long lets. A long let is classed as 5 years. If you are given an 11 month contract you are on a short let - higher rents then!!
I'd be interested to hear from anyone who has heard about this - obviously the letting agents clam up when asked!!

I dont think this is a new a new law, it was passed nearly 5 years ago.

Anything under 12 months is a 'temporada' and over 12 months is a 'vivienda' and as such has renewal rights up to 5 years.

Thats my understanding of it anyway

Jo

Thanks Jo jo - you know what it's like. you hear 10 different versions of things. How does that work when renting somewhere then? Surely if they are charging the rents they do they have to give a 5 year contract?

There are some medium circles around. A few make good money, the most do not. Spiritually not so much as the uk (in my opinion).
Best bets are Costa Del Sol, first, then costa blanca second.

La Manga and Mar Menor are nice places (Murcia), southeast of Spain, you can find bilingual schools, lot of british people, and lot of services near the beach, for example, Mar Menor, you have motorways to Murcia, Alicante and Madrid, you have airport in San JAvier, with flights to London, Dublin, Manchester... you can see aena web side aena dot es and choose san javier´s airport, you have Mar Menor and Mediterranean Sea, Mar Menor is a special Sea, whichh is gorgeous for children and old people, you have Calblanque, Murcia city is a nice place, so is Cartagena...hospitals, pubs...
