May I suggest that you see if you can keep your UK house and let if off, then go and rent on a monthly basis [ long term lets are for just less than 12 months for expats in Spain] find the jobs you want and if it then becomes a 'yes to Spain' sell up in UK and buy in Spain
The good deals[ and by that I mean good property at sensible prices] will be around in 2008 but 2009 who knows!
Doing it this way you keep an entry back in Uk if the jobs do not turn out OK and UK rent will probably cover the Spanish rent!
I have bought in Almeria, near Hurcal Overa. but to start with [ from mid 2009] for winter but then perhaps full time!

Yes, Danemad, but Gandia is not a particularly nice place, you forget to mention that.

Best bet is to
1. Find out if you are legal to buy here in Spain
2. Get on the airoplane
3. Hire a car
4. Tour around and see where you like.
5. Otherwise is like saying I fancy living in Canada, I dont know where though.

Spend a month on vacation, check out the areas for yourself, you are the only one who knows what you like.

What on earth do you mean? Its a lovely place. Have you been there recently, or do you not know it very well?

Its our local town .... It has pedestrianised shopping for those that want it, lovely little squares dotted around with cafes and bars, and the historical area is quite interesting. The playa area is outstanding with blue flag beaches and a long long promenade along the seafront. Its a busy town, but that doesn't make it "not a particularly nice place"

We're in the north-west of Spain, in the beautiful countryside of the 'real' Spain. For a limited budget, house prices are much much less that the populated costas but here, you need to get in the car, to find someone else that speaks english. If you should want to know more about this part of Spain, let me know.

Why .... you reckon you can get a better deal without them? Funnily enough I was walking with my neighbour earlier and they have their house for sale. The agent put it up for €35k more thatn he is asking for it

You are of course correct
Trouble is, locating the houses.

If you're actually looking around the area it might be worthwhile knocking on the door of any you see for sale, or a letter through the box. I know that doesn't help with unoccupied places, but its a start.
