Hi,
Buying is not a quick process, there needs to be lots of thought. You need to ask what you want from it, if you do not speak Spanish, are you going to learn before you go, so that if you move to a Spanish area, you can get by, do you need to work when you get there, if you don't speak Spanish, it will be difficult to get work, so you will need to be in an area that has a British group of residents, do want want inland or coastal, inland is cheaper, at present.

What can you afford, will depend on the area you can buy in. Do you drive, will you be dependent on public transport.Do you want to move now or in a number of years, will drive you to either off plan , key ready or resale.

Answer all these and you are then on the way to choosing an area.

If you want further guidance e.mail damatt@tiscali.co.uk with your questions and they will help you.

Cheers Dave

Default good advice

Hi there!

We bougth two months ago in Los Alcazares, (Murcia), really nice place to live. Our buying proces dragged on for well over a year and a half but we know that it was a must to have a Spanish lawyer assisting us during the purchase! We were then lucky to find ABOGADOS MJ CARRILLO LAWYERS in Internet. We strongly recommend their services.

Cheers and good luck!

Well, I don't have an agency to promote. My advice would be to list the things that you want in a place to live, and list the things you don't want. Do you like the beach? Do you want to be where there are a lot of ex-pats? Are you interested in immersing yourself in Spanish culture or are you looking for a sunny, pleasant place to live? Do you want to learn Spanish? What sort of housing do you want? Once you've figured out what your parameters are, you will be able to eliminate a few areas. You probably won't find a place that is a perfect match, but you can eliminate the obvious non-starters.

You could also try the south of Spain, Almeria. There are many expat, english speaking communities in the resort areas such as Mojacar, Albox, Berja, Roquetas etc. Take a look at my web site and click on the Almeria link to look at the type of properties that are avaliable and for what prices.

It will just give you an idea. Property here can still be quite cheap in comparison to other, more, dare I say, overbuilt resorts. Any way if you need any more help dont hesitate to ask.

I should have asked this before. Can you get legal residence in Spain? It's sort of useless to worry about property if they aren't going to let you stay.

to all of you who are thinking of buying something in the Denia or Javea region, it is rammed with Germans and Brits but prices are sky high. Your best best is to go just a little further North, around Gandia way. We are in a small village about 10 mins only form the beach and we have a 5 bed 2 bath town house which we are selling for only 210,000 euros totally furnished (Ģ145K approx!!!). It is huge and totally reformed. You are still near the beaches and a biggish town and near enough to British areas if you want to go to them - 35 mins to Javea/Denia down the motorway. There are about 5 British families already in our village but it is still Spanish enough to enjoy the traditions.

Whenever I go to Javea or Denia it seems I canīt even hear any Spanish people, there are English conversations everywhere and you feel you canīt get away from the Brits! Theyīre next to you in the restaurant or in the bar or in the supermarket queue, itīs awful. So take my advice... go a little further inland or up North.

If anyone is interested in viewing photos of my house please email me or call me on 655.031.287.
