Default To recap......

Regarding retiring to Spain lock, stock & dog and having been pointed in various directions by the wealth of info on this forum (even had a skeg at the Spanish yellow pages) it would seem that the following are must do's....... but feel free to shoot me down if you reckon I've bished

1) Go & suss out the area you're thinking about and take yer time...... even if it takes a few trips it'll be worth it.

2) Talk to people (my forte according to Mrs Doggy) to get their impressions on everything about where they live ........ and if it has to be done in a local bar, well, it's a nasty job but somebody has to do it eh

3) Rent first rather than buy straight away, that way if you've goofed on the place you reckoned on it ain't the end of the world and you can take your time looking for that perfect property.

4)Do the red tape & legal stuff properly. Get a good (recommended..... see note 2 ....more bar work) gestor & abogado. It'll cost but how much is peace of mind worth? You're supposed to be enjoying yourselves not watching your blood pressure go into orbit.

5) Learn the lingo ..... this is non-negotiable so just do it & stop whining

Am I close?

Sounds like you`ve done your homework Doggy and maybe quite a bit more to do learning Spanish.
If you take a long term rental contract,do as if you were buying a place.
Check it out at various times of day for things such as traffic, mopeds, building works, noisy kids, any possible disturbances etc.
Sometimes places can look peacefull and quiet in the afternoon, but all hell can break loose on the evenings.
Also speak to potential neighbours already living there regarding possible problems.
Hope you get sorted OK,
Best Regards.

Good point about the evenings.
Funny you should say about learning Spanish 'cos I've just got back from my first lesson (jumped straight in at level two) and yes ................. I've got homework
