Hello, Everyone!

New to the site and glad to have found an active, current site to get real time news on llife in Spain.

I fell in love with Spain when I first read Spanish poetry as a teen, was later fortunate enough to study at the University of Madrid and took advantage of lots of fiesta days to roam about Andalucia in the early '80s. I've never forgotten the beauty of Spain and always wanted to "go back."

My husband has never been, but I've managed to convince him he really, really needs to retire to Andalucia . . . :clap2: . . . and we're starting our long-term preparations to do just that!

I look forward to reading the comments and hopefully even getting to know some of you better.

Hello MCzwz

There are a few of us Americans on here, there is plenty of info on retiring to Spain but little first hand knowledge from anyone here from the U.S. who has actually done it. This is a good forum to learn and then when you start or learn anything about the process please post on here for the few of us who are also trying to walk the same path

WELCOME

"Back" to the Future

Thank you for the welcome, Lindsay and Ibernal, and everyone else.

Back in the late 70s/early 80s, I was extremely fortunate to get a scholarship to the University of Madrid (La Complutense). It was an unabelievable 3 years of my life which I have never forgotten, but rather brought forward with me in the many, many years since.

There is a world of difference between living in a foreign country - any foreign country - as a young, carefree student and picking up a 50+ year old life and traipsing back across the ocean! I realize that, but I look forward to it -- as does my husband.

We've been "researching" for the past many months while I try to look up all the places I remember, to show him the foods, music, atmosphere, culture, attitudes and people of Spain. It did not take him too long to agree it is the best on earth. :clap2:

I'll be happy to share all my memories and experiences with you all . . . sometimes I feel I never left! That's how deeply Spain took over my heart.

yes, we have quite a few from the U.S., as you say, planning a retirement in Spain - please keep us updated on how you get on :)

I'm sure if you check most of our stories you will find a similar experience with Spain as you. I for one lived in Spain for 7 years and then traveled back and forth every year or couple years since. I feel Spain to be my second home. If I could have found work after my time spent living there I would certainly still be there. It has been a long dream of mine to buy a flat and live there most of the year. My son is half Spanish and I have worked hard to make sure he feels as much Spanish as American.
Spain gets in your blood and stays with you for a life time, this forum is proof of this :)
Good luck to you MCzwz and your family on this adventure and remember to keep the rest of us Americans updated on what you learn about the process as you go along. Our issues to get there are much different than the people who live in Europe as they don't need visa's or anything like that to make the move.

Where are you in the States?
