Default work options in singapore as a doctor (either clinical or nonclinical)

Hi. I am a general practitioner from the Philippines and I'd like to know the possible work options in Singapore as a doctor. I am considering work opportunities either in a clinical or nonclinical setting (i.e., research). Also, you might know of any training in Dermatology available. Thank you!

Have you checked into whether your medical license is transferrable? I spent a little time in a private hospital there, and going to their clinic, and juging by how easy it was to get in to see doctors, I don't think there is a great shortage.

Hi,

I happened to see this post.

I would like to know how Difficult is it for a Philippine MD to start practising in Government hospitals ? Is the SMC approval fast or tedious ?

My Fiance' is a MD, specialised in Gynae. It would be good to know her position before she comes here.

Thanks a million.

Thanks,

titanventure: not sure where the exhorbitant fees come in ..

I am not in the medical line, so I am not familiar, but from what I understood, restructured hospitals don't charge placement fee, and the amount you quoted seems exhorbitant. You could enlighten me the reason for such high fee. I am also not sure how the restructured hospitals work.

Additionally, after spending a lot of time researching, I understand that the starting pay for non-Singapore/FRCS/FRCP qualified doctors just start at 4,500 S$, and not 40,000 S$ plus as you quoted. And most end up doing 2 years of internship, to satisfy the SMC requirement of supervised practice.

I have been asking around, and that is what I have been made to understand.

Can you provide more information, as there are lot of mushroom agencies, who promise the sky and nothing comes out ..

The reply could also help other people.

Thanks

Hey Ecureilx,

From what I know when I was working in KK Women's and Children's Hospital, there were Phillipino doctors in the paediatric side, however, am not too sure about the specialty in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, maybe you can check out their site. - Sorry am a newb and not able to put up URL's.

Hope this was helpful

*P.S. Will ask around for you and Estela

That would be a great help.. I have prepared her to start as a GP, at the worst case. And pursue FRCS, to increase her chances. Thanks a lot mate.
