Default Jobs in Singapore??

Hi there,

I'm looking into moving to Singapore in the future and I was wondering if it easier to get a job offer if you are in Singapore?

So far I've been applying for jobs from the jobstreet and jobsdb websites but I haven't heard anything back from any of the jobs I've applied for. This is despite having an MSc in the relevant field and over 5 years working experience in the UK doing a similar job. I also qualify for an employment pass.

Would anyone recommend moving to Singapore and trying to find a job once I get there? Or is that too risky?

Many thanks!!

it really depends, being in singapore would make it easier for interviews which is something employers would take into consideration. I would recommend coming here first on a visa that allows you to look for work before moving here.

Thanks for your response. I've been to Singapore on a tourist visa before, I guess I could look for work on a tourist visa then get it changed when I get the employment pass approved. My problem is that I'm working in Japan at the minute and can't really spend too much time in Singapore looking for jobs. I've been trying to get a job in Singapore by applying for jobs online but so far i've had absolutely zero expressions of interest. The big question I have really, is whether its the fact that I'm in Japan (and not Singapore) is the reason for not hearing anything back, or is it that employers in Singapore simply don't want to hire a foreigner full stop? My previous experience is in the healthcare/pharmaceutical industry so I know there are many opportunities in these industries in Singapore.

From experience (having worked in both SG and JP as well as various other countries), it's a universal rule of thumb that it's always easier to jobhunt/be hired when you're 'in country' - after all, no amount of telephone/Skype interviews can ever be a match for the 'real thing' - and many HR managers will not even consider a CV with non-local contact details (eg address/mobile number).

Zero response to CV submission seems to be the default nowadays, and is not surprising when they probably have CVs of equally/better-qualified locally-based candidates in their inbox...

There are jobs out there though (especially in your industry): perhaps you should consider SG for your next holiday, get a local SIM card upon arrival at Changi and then start the jobhunt in earnest?

Friends,

Currently I'm working as Oracle apps technical consultant in India and planning to move to Singapore by May 2012. Hence started applying online for jobs in Singapore but as many said zero response since my contact details are not local.

Fortunately my relative is staying there in S'pore. So I decided to move there on visit visa in a month and search jobs there. I think this should work by applying with local contact/address.

Please give me any suggestions on this..I'm very desperate to relocate to Singapore by the way!

Thanks friend. I've started applying through job sites and planning to move there by May 1st week as well. By the way, are you in Singapore now?

Edit: just seen your location. Can you suggest best job sites for IT in S'pore?

So do I. I opened it from my office but couldn't open from home connection.
There must be some problem with proxy at home connection, will check it.
Thanks for confirming though.
