Default How many expats live in Egypt?

I have never found a reliable statistics on this one.

I know that there are approximately 15000 italians here but I am not sure about other nationalities.

Good old wikipedia does not have any info on this either.

I am a bit of a geek on geography so does anyone have any relevant info on this per subject of mine?

My guess on expat numbers = 200000ish

Have a look on various embassy pages.. I think they tell you how many citizens are registered as being in the country.

If it is any help I know of two Italians living in zamalek

The number of foreigners living in Egypt is about 116, 000 and represent 0.1 % of the total population

Arab countries (58.1 %)
Europe (21 %)
Asian countries (6 %)
North America (6 %)

So you can say there are about 31,000 Europeans and Americans

And does that mean, half of the Westerners are Italians?

Last demographics of Egyptian Census, the figure as most everything in Egypt is probably questionable.

There is also the aspect as to what would construe a resident as you need a resident visa to purchase a property or open a bank account which does not mean that you are actually living here and could be living in your country of origin

I am sure if it was UK the results would be further broken down by the office of national statistics detailing everything.

The last 2 census I had in the UK I filled out as weird as possible, one asked about what type of central heating, I told them I used a BBQ

The last census I did in the US asked a bunch of irrelevant questions. I answered one question: How many people lived in my home. A couple of weeks later, I came home to a card on my door that a census worker had been by and to call. Sure enough, she wanted answers to the rest of the survey. We went around and around until she understood I would not tell her any more information as I had already answeredthe one question legally required of me!

Back to the topic, there's a Canadian that lives near me, so they can +1 the list.

I am the one who is confused. Where did i say that 7500 italians are not Westerners?

Maybe that is the perception germans have of italians ie. non westerners (the impression one gets when hearing what your PM has to say on the matter but I digress on this point....).

I just said 15000 are italians, which is what I read during the evacuation last year.

Well it would appear that the 2011 UK census results will not even get published....Maybe Cameron is worried about telling people that the population has already reached 70 million.....

I think we all concur on one point, Paul Ashton cannot take part in a census: he is an alien.
