Lightbulb Sexual harassment, amendments!

Article 267:
If the rape victim is a female younger than 18 years old, or if he/she was related to the offender(s) (Family, or employer) => Execution; if the victim is over 18 years old, life time jail.

Article 268:
“Forced” attempt of a sexual act, “strict” jail time, if offender(s) is/are family or employers, at least 7 years in jail; if it’s a family and -18, life time jail. (Victim’s gender is not specified in this article).

Article 269 (A):
Same as 268, but if the victim(s) is/are -12 years old, minimum 7 years “strict” jail.

Article 269 (B):
Public sexual act or “prompting” for a sexual act (Kinda hard to translate this one? The Arabic text says “Provoking/prompting others for sexual act whether it’s by “signs” or “speech”?), minimum 3 months in jail; if it happened again within a year from the first verdict, minimum year in jail, and a fine that not less than 500.00 EGP and not more than 3,000.00 EGP, with same period of time under police surveillance.

Article 288:
Kidnapping (Or participating in kidnapping in any way) a male child that’s younger than a 12 years old, minimum 5 years “strict” jail time.

Article 289:
Same as 288, but for both male and female children, also extends the victims’ age limit to 18 years old; for female victims, minimum 10 years instead, if the victim was raped during being a hostage, execution.

Article 306 (B):
Sexual harassment (Public, or using phone, or in any form or shape!): 6 months to 2 years jail time and/or a fine, minimum 500.00 EGP, maximum 2,000.00 EGP; if it happened again within a year from the first verdict, minimum year in jail and a fine between 1,000.00 & 5,000.00 EGP.

Article 375, A and B concerns “thugs”!

In brief, if a thug is “terrifying” one victim, minimum year in jail.

Minimum 2 years and 5 years maximum if “An animal” was used or used chemicals or weapons of any kind, or if there are more than just one victim, or if the victim is a female, or if the victim is either male or female that’s age is less than 18 years!

If things went messy, double the penalties mentioned! So minimum 4 years, maximum 10! If it lead to a “felony” then maximum 20 years, execution if one of the victims died!

Same penalty time will be later under police surveillance after getting out of jail!

The link for the whole article (In Arabic!) Çáíæã ÇáÓÇÈÚ | ÇáãÌáÓ ÇáÚÓßÑì:ÊÔÏíÏ ÚÞæÈÉ ÇáÇÚÊÏÇÁ ÇáÌäÓì æÇáÊÍÑÔ ááÅÚÏÇã æÇáãÄÈÏ

I’m not a lawyer! And believe it or not but my Arabic isn’t THAT good when it comes to the weird vague pointless texts!! So I’m sorry about the unprofessional translation folks!

At least they are now acknowledging rape and sexual abuse goes on so that is a step in the right direction, but I wonder how many people will report these abuses.

Admitting that there's a problem?! Yes, good move, but the original Arabic text got many "if's" and circumstantial rules if you want my opinion, I'm not a lawyer but I don't think it would be hard to go around it! At all! And like you said, that's if someone came to report in the first place!

Also Article 269 (B) is too vague in the original text! If you read it in Arabic, it sounds like if you're just walking with someone and some idiot came and felt "offended" or "provoked" then you'd end in jail! There's no clear definition for the Arabic words for "Provoking" nor "Prompting"! It will depend on what people "think" to be provoking or offending!

I guess "inciting passers-by to engage in debauchery" means soliciting.

It will be interesting to see what conviction rates they get for those rape and harassment cases that are actually reported.

What do you guys think of the dead penalty though? I have always been against it, so not a good sign in my view.

Wonder if that will stop me being asked... how much?

I am against the death penelty in any country. I think it is barbarian to take another persons life in what is revenage and not punishment. How can you legalise killing anyone?

In the UK rapists and pedophiles get special treatment to place them back into society and it causes the victim distress and the tax payer wasted funds.

I think that offenders should be castrated and / or have the word "I AM A PERVERT" tattooed on the forehead in English and Arabic to warn others then release them into society

They would wear a hat to hide it.

I have no idea what would work as a punishment and as a preventive after all there are people who just don't really care, USA is full of death row prisoners, people still get their hands chopped off for thieving, women still get stoned for adultery but it doesn't prevent them from comitting the crime.

Of course, the latter two don't regularly occur in the USA....
