Default Surgeon to be sentenced for showing finger

gulfnews : Surgeon to be sentenced in absentia for indecency

"I was in my car with my wife and children and drove in a street where there were road projects. The claimant repeatedly flashed his high beam behind me. Ahead of the road projects, the claimant drove parallel to my car and opened his window. He switched on the light in his car. His attitude annoyed me. I waved both of my hands asking him what he wanted! Police summoned me later and said S.S. complained that I showed him the middle finger," J.W. claimed to prosecutors.

Oh god, I think I may have done that a couple of times. Scary. God bless this country.

Something seems fishing about the story. Same story in The National, but it is more detailed as to the issue.

From the article.....
SS, 28, a first sergeant at the General Department of the Naturalisation and Residency, testified that he was with his child in the car when he noticed that Dr Mensah was driving at night without his lights

"I flashed at him twice to alert him," he said. "When I opened the window, I was surprised to see him raising his middle finger at me."

But in his letter, Dr Mensah said that was not the case.

"We had our headlines on as it was dark. During this encounter, the officer turned on his inside light for me to obviously see him in the dark, and therefore it was not possible for him to have also clearly seen me in my vehicle to make an accusation that 'I had raised my middle finger', which I did not," he wrote. "In fact, to date, I am not entirely sure whether his allegation is based on somethign he saw when he was driving behind my vehicle or something he saw when his vehicle was driving parallel to our vehicle."

Dr Mensah did not look towards SS nor open his window, SS testified. He said he pulled behind Dr Mensah's car, wrote down its plate number and called police.

Well if the local says it happened, then it happened. That's all the "proof" the court needs.

I can totally relate, one of the technicians that work for me made a throw your hands up kind of gesture to the guy that was flashing his lights, and when the guy blocked him from moving until the police arrived we found out that he was the chief of police .....no win situation

UK doctor cleared in Dubai road rage case

I am surprised that he got a Not Guilty verdict even after not showing up. Goes to show you the power that a local or GCC national has in this country over other residents and people. All they needed to do was make a false accusation and this guy, a well respected surgeon, had to flee.

The poor guy who handed in his passport as a guarantor must have needed a few sets of fresh underwear when he found out the Doc had stitched him up and wouldn`t be coming back to face the music.

Yeah. I can well understand his reluctance to return here BUT to leave that other poor guy to take the wrap is completely inexcusable. If I was the guarantor my next mission would be a flight to London..............................
