In the 21st century, what sort of State allows for the arrest of a national and/or non-national, based on his or her (consensual) sex life - married or not?

And how does the Sheik and his subordinates expect to be taken seriously on the international stage, without embarrassing themselves, when his law courts are filled with a Big Brother, navel-gazing "sexual offence" like this one?

Dubai and the UAE is a laughing stock for human rights. I truly feel for the woman and her child while they are locked away in the detention centre. She can't even legally name the child. It's pathetic and a disgrace.

Yes. Pity the poor maid. It's getting down the food chain, isn't it? Not only a lowly unpaid maid and a non-local (from a "wrong" country), but a woman who had sex and got pregnant and is duly locked up and is deemed "guilty" until proven innocent.

It's just tragically farcical.

I can see the logic in this... I don't agree with it though....

The court has asked for her to prove that she is married as, you have to be to have a child and, she can't except based on her word... As soon as the husband gets the certificate legalised etc then, she'll be allowed to go...

Yes, very simple, if only life was so simple, that every mother is an adulteress and every child illegitimate unless proven otherwise.

Just how every degree is considered fake unless proven otherwise, and every worker is HIV +ve unless proven.

They were arrested for having sex... and consensual at that. Not for being unmarried nor having a baby - that's how they found out, obviously. Who would have thought that humans have sex!? Now let's arrest them and put them into jail while we wait for them to tell the "truth".

The psyche behind this type of law making, apart from being perverted as a Big Brother and religious manifesto, is just archaic and mind-controlling scary, imho. And the laws like this across the UAE and the rest of the ME do nothing for creating a progressive, modern society - equal for all.

Justify and rationalise all you like, I don't care that the law is the law, or ultimately who these people are. It's not right, fair or equal and I am commenting as such.
