I'm a huge soccer fan and love to play here at home. I've been playing since high school and currently play in co-ed rec teams. I'm moving to Dubai in August and NEED to know if there are soccer leagues in which women can play.

Any info?

It is true that the word "soccer" was first used in England. It was made up a long time ago to differentiate between football and rugby (which true name is rugby football). Essentially created by posh people along time ago!

It is now most widely used in communities/countries where Association Football isn't the primary football game . i.e US, Australia etc.

Rugby is a game made up by miners in Wales. In a place called Rugby (i think), hence the term rugby football. Very much originated as a working man's sport & the name is just descriptive. There are plenty of forms of football, gaelic, rugby etc... Soccer rules were formalised by the French. The English claim its their sport, but every culture with the ability to kick a stone has had some form of football in its history...

Rugby was also invented in England. The town of Rugby is in the Midlands.
Its a little strange that some games are called football when the feet are rarely used. Gaelic football does involve the use of feet.
'Soccer' is the only sport using the name where use of hands is almost expressly forbidden.
