Default 2012 Summer Olympics Coverage

Did not see a thread for this so decided to start one....

The Summer Olympics begins Friday, July 27, 2012, and ends Sunday, August 12, 2012.

Back in the states the Games are shown free of charge but I don't know how it works in Dubai or in the UAE. I have seen a few articles stating that Du customers will get to see it or free but also have received an email from Du stating that I should upgrade to a package to receive HD coverage. So, I am confused, if I have the basic package will I get the coverage for free?

I am okay with watching the boys and girls of the U.S.A. kick a$$es (arses for you British types) in standard definition.

Also, why is Equestrianism an Olympic sport? Are we now allowing animals to compete? The rider does nothing but sit on a horse, the horse jumps, runs, and exerts energy, wtf? Might as well allow motorcycle and car racing in as well.

The last Olympics, I was in Hong Kong where they had the Dressage event. It was the singularly most boring sports event I have ever seen. Something like watching paint dry. Probably interesting for the artist, but too subtle for a "commoner" like me. At least in other Equestrian events you at least see the horse jumping or something like that.
Anyways, the coverage is free or so I assumed - I have the other paid channels for my sports fix so I didnt bother.
The du email says "Additionally, our Enterprise customers can also watch the Olympics 2012 events on a number of FTA channels on our FTA basic IPTV package. " and I was assuming it meant it is for free.

agreed - the 'sponsorship' angle ruins the event entirely.

and all sports that involve subjective scoring, or do not see the olympics on a par with or more important than their respective world championships should be removed!

no golf
no soccer
no ice dancing
no synchronised underwater basket weaving
no dressage
no gymnastics

but i think darts would be a useful addition!

Definitely +1 for the Darts! I went to Belfast to see a round of the Premier Darts League earlier this year and have just booked to go to the World Grand Prix in Dublin in October!!

2 years ago I went to the Lakeside for the last 3 days of the tournament. Sure the darts isn't up to the PDC but for atmosphere and an amazing 3 days on the lash it was up there with the best stag do or cup final you've been to.

I agree, but do not take away synchronized underwater basket weaving.... the excitement of that sport keeps me on the edge of my seat.... I mean how will they finish the basket and will they be able to hold their breath any longer.... suspense I tell you... the suspense....
