Just reading Time Out magazine, I cannot for the life of me understand why they're forced to use the words "grape" and "hops" when talking about wine and beer. Completely ridiculous.

They've got a recipe for fish and chips, one of the ingredients for the batter is a can of lager. They have it listed as "400ml wheat beverage". What nonsense is this?

Man who beat 4 wives gives up on appeal - The National

then asked how many children the man had; he said 16.
"Can you differentiate between them?", asked the judge.
The man replied enigmatically that he "marks them".

Not sure if the three wives who got divorced feel lucky or the one who was not divorced

PS: technically not a rant, unless I complain about being married to one wife

I didn't bring over a lot of warmer weather clothes with me when I got here just before Christmas, so now that its warm, I had my contact back in the states send over about a half dozen polo shirts, some solid, some striped. Looking around, I realized that I'm not going to wear some of the brightly colored solid polo because a lot of the little brown worker bees ( as I like to call them with no malice) wear brightly colored polo shirts...

Is a cold glass of saccharomyces eubayanus (look it up) or a fermented fruit juice (wine) going to do the trick?

Not that I am into psychoanalysing complete strangers, but perhaps Gavtek is going through, dare I say it, that weird, wonderful and ever so strange yet totally known and totally circumspect emotion of expat estrangement ? - where do I belong, now that I know that I don't belong to anyone, anywhere or anything? I know what is right and wrong, but Is it neither here or there, as I know I don't belong either here or there and, in fact, where is here or there?

And what the bloody hell have they done to my fish'n'chips!?

Okay, okay, I'll shush and have another glass of roasted unmalted barley.

*Whispers pleasurably as though possessed by Gollum himself, across the dark, dark kitchen before the late evening moonrise, whilst trying to circumnavigate the all-powerful One Ring, "EF!"*

"Bartender... another cast iron pint of Guinness, please. And, O my precious.... be sure to fill a chalice of whatever pleases Gavtek."

Okay, so my post was full of absolute crap. However, the above post definitely does not read like a rant or absolute crap, but something totally different. And it has nothing to do with vanity.

Just sayin'.

Addendum: just for the record, my absolute crap comes from a half-cut state of perfect cerebral inebriation.

However, Ish, if you had posted that comment in the "Racism in the UAE" thread, it would be gloves off.

Again, just sayin'.

Oh, I agree 100% with that. However, I'm a chubby brown worker bee myself, being African-American, & It was definitely written tongue in cheek.

My observation of whats worn over here isn't vanity driven, its actually from observations of my own culture back in the US. I don't agree with a lot of the fashion choices made my my folks make. The saggy pants, underwear showing style is a good example. Never in my life would I dress like that.

I also spent 15 years in a military uniform, and I could not WAIT to get out of it at the end of the day, like a lot of my other co-workers, and put on something that doesn't remind me of work. Still feel that way with my current work get-up over here. I guess I have an aversion to work clothes...
