Wink Looking for contacts and help

Hello there, I'm a registered massage therapist desperate to move to Tanzania. I'm hoping someone out there can help me get contacts in a clinic that treats the expat community. I'm flexible for living in either Dar, Zanzibar, Moshi, Tanga or Arusha.

Just will need income so I can volunteer and work at the same time. Do any of you know anyone who can help me? I hope to move in about a year and a half while I finish up things here. Asante sana! Jenn B

Hi Jenn and welcome to the forum.

Although I can't give you any advice, I am sure there is someone out there who can.

Good luck with your plans.

Michelle

What type of certification do you have?
You will need to comply with the requirements to get a work permit/visa. Locals will get preference as many of them are well trained in your field .

Red face

Registered massage therapist in Ontario undergo a 3 year college program here. It is treatment-oriented swedish-massage therapy. Registered means I am a member of the College of Massage Therapists Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. We require over 2000 hours clinical experience prior to graduating the program and then must pass thorough board examinations until we can register with the CMTO. WE must also have a current CPR-c First Aid to practice and full comprehensive insurance at a minimum of $2,000,000.

Do you know what the requirements to getting a visa there are? I'm starting from scratch.

Asante,

Jenn B

First you will not need all your required certifications and insurance there.
The best bet would be to apply with a hotel group with spa facilities. Do not expect to get a huge salary though.
To give you an idea of salaries.
A top hotel Manger and his wife both working in the hotel live in situation only gets $2000-3000 per month if they are real tops .
Your position will be considered much lower, so much much less income there.

However there will be tips from international tourists too.

Most expats prefer the locals for treatments because they are so dirt cheap!

Another option would be to enter as an investor and start your own business.

That would require a substantial amount of cash upfront. I will send you the link for Tanzanian Visa Services .Overseas Embassies and Consulates of Tanzania

I have been trying any and every avenue and recognize it will take some time. Have a few places expressing interest but nothing serious yet. Thanks, I'll check out the link

I just returned from volunteering in Jambiani for over a month and then traveled for another. Fell in love with it. I think that happens often. I'm not sure of the feasibility of moving there. I know its hard, the people I know there say its very difficult unless you have a financial incentive for the government, as in opening a business or a strong capital to start. I don't have that, so I'm just exploring options, as what I do have is time. Any help you could give me what be graciously welcomed. I will definably be returning to the Jambiani Wellness Center in 2011, if a job in not forthcoming.

Thanks for you support,

Jenn Bruce
