Hi and welcome to the forum.

If you are planning to apply for residency, my advice would be is to make sure that you have all your documentation apostilled at the Foreign and Commonwealth office in London (you can do it by post) such as birth and marriage certificates and apply for the famous police checks for all over 18s. I am sure that India is the same as most other countries in the world and love paperwork and lots of it. Also take lots of photocopies with you of everything, including your passports.

We apostilled the main documents in London, but did not know about the police reports and once we had received them, they then had to be sent back to London to be apositlled.

Letters from the children's school (if you have any) stating what years they had completed and exam results etc. Things in the beginning would have been much easier, if we had had everything too hand immediately. Saying that, we have now received our permanent residency and even with all the paperwork, it was worth it.

Regards and good luck

Michelle
