cost of living in central to southern Italy

Hello ,

I will be traveling to Italy in November and doing a tour for 3 weeks. I was based in Italy for a short bit while in the Marine Corp years ago. I am now retired with wife and 2 children. I am thinking of moving in spring 2010 with them.

I have a retirement pension of about 4000 euros a month . So is that enough to get established and live relatively comfortably ?

I realize this is a tough rather broad question... It has been difficult gathering any kind of information on this.

As you can see, I've moved this to the section of the forum where most of our Italy questions wind up. You may get some more replies this way.

You need to check with the Italian embassy/consulate in the US to see how much they require you to have in income to get a non-working or retirement visa. But I would think that 4000€ a month would be more than adequate. (It's more than twice what the French consulate requires for a visa to live in France.)
