Exclamation Where should I go?

Hi, my name is Eduardo. I speak Italian, English and Spanish. I love learning new languages and I will try to learn French that is really hard.

but not everything is ok in my life. I live in a country with a deep social crisis. Our economy is good even in these hard times but crime is extreme, everywhere. People are not happy anymore, they're worried all the time they could be kidnapped, raped, assaulted.... and so on...

I'm having personal problems too, with my family, friends... I wanna start a new life anywhere else.

I was gonna study Finance & Banking but I stopped because I think that my degree will have no value overseas. I am 19 years old

So I would like to live anywhere else/ get a regular job and study at the same time and then be happy
I know it's not easy

Reasons I'm leaving
*crime
*problems with my family/friends
*I'm very liberal to be in this religious, homophobic country

What I want/expect
*Dont wanna be millionaire. I want a simple and quiet life. I need Internet access and cell phone... a small place to stay, have some good friends or at least acquaintances...Have goals to reach... and especially SAFE... I dont mean no crime but at least not rampant

Candidates:

Canada-That's was my first option since I speak English but I heard terrible things about it that you cant get even a call center job if you're foreigner. And they only accept highly skilled immigrants but those people end up driving taxis or delivering pizzas

Australia-It seemed perfect because is really far from where I am but racism? I am black(black dad and white mom so kind of brown) and that's exactly the reason why I did not go to USA... So, Australia has a long history of racism with their own aborigine people!

Spain-It's not an option, I just wanted to say it's even more racist than USA. It's a shame because I could work there since I speak 3 languages including Spanish that is my native language but Spaniards have killed black people so I can't go there.

and I think the best option for me

Netherlands: Liberal, not so racist(there is racism everywhere),safe(some people say it's not safe but I don't think there is a lot of crime going on there, people exaggerate), clean, small.... The only thing that worries me the most is to get a job. I don't wanna be a Dutch company CEO but at least a call center agent, assistant or something like that...

People, what do you recommend?

Thanks

Hi eduardo, and welcome to the forum.

One big problem with your plan is that to go to most countries permanently, you need to have a job to get in, preferably a job that requires university level training. You could go someplace to study, but a student visa normally requires you to be a full time student, with pretty strict limits on how much you can work. (Not enough to support yourself through school.)

I'm afraid you'll find, too, that despite the traditionally liberal attitudes in the Netherlands, there is a very vocal and increasingly strong anti-immigrant movement there. The Netherlands is a small country with some problems assuring jobs and education for its own citizens, so it's understandable why they are hesitant to take on lots of foreigners. If you want to go there, you'd best start learning Dutch as it is a requirement for long-term residence.

I think the stories you've heard about Canada, Australia and Spain are much exaggerated. The same things happen in the Netherlands, and probably in most other European countries, but they receive huge press play even though they are more or less "isolated incidents."

Unless you're in a situation where you are able to apply for political asylum somewhere (and that carries its own stigma with it), you'd probably do best to continue your education to the level you can in your country - through university if at all possible. You'll then have more options as far as either study or work situations elsewhere.
Cheers,
Bev

Thanks Bev, I understand it but the problem is that I don't know if my degree will have any value in those countries... that's the reason why I don't know if go to college now.

About the other countries.
Spain-I don't think it's exaggerated because it has not been isolated, it happens more often than many other famous racists countries. The advantage of Spain: not so many people speaking several languages.

Canada-It's not only racism but the issue of not being able to find a decent job even as a professional with experience. I went to notcanada dot com forum and I got so scared

Australia-It seemed the perfect place, especially since It's really far from this horrible place I wanna leave and never come back. but the point that they don't care and hate their aborigines makes me think twice

The advantages of any of these countries for me is that I won't have to learn a new language... In the Netherlands I would have to(Dutch)... but Netherlands is still the best option for me now.... I mean, I still can study and leave as a skilled co-worker but will my degree be worth in any of these places?

My plan was go to the Netherlands with the MVV and then study in an Open University or something but well, I am here for advice

But one thing is true: Sometimes I ask myself why did I have to be born in this horrible country? I am sick of my family and friends and I NEED to start a new life

Many countries that have always had a liberal attitude toward immigrants and people of other races lose that attitude when confronted with large numbers. It is easy to be liberal most of the time you never have to deal with anyone different from yourself. It's harder on a daily basis and when the numbers start creeping up over 10 percent.

One of the problems you have to contend with is whether you can get into these countries. European countries are notoriously hard to enter, possibly even harder than getting into the US legally. Canada, the UK, Australia, and New Zealand operate on a point system, so that at least you don't have to find a job before you move there. That can be difficult to impossible, and expensive if you have to visit as a tourist in order to find work.

I'd reconsider Australia, and look into what you need to have enough points to emigrate. Look at the stickies in the Australia forum for information on the immigration website. There you can take a test to see how many points you have, and figure out how many points you need and how to get them.

I don't know what MVV means, but if you can get into the Netherlands, and can afford it, then try. Someone who worked for me long ago told me that he did his entire degree in computer science without ever having a course taught in Dutch. All his classes were conducted in English. If you are going to live there, you need to learn the language, but it may not be necessary for you to study.

Thanks synthia. I've investigated a lot about the Netherlands. It's not 100% easy but it's easier than USA. I know the points system of Canada and Australia but I've stated why I don't wanna be in those countries. Australians hate their own aborigine people and Canada: several stories of Highly educated immigrants (MBA, PhD)who could not find a job even in a call center.

I'm not asking a lot really. I wanna leave for 3 reasons
*Crime in my country is extremely high
*I don't wanna live with my family anymore. My friends left me alone
*I did not want to say this but: Another reason I wanna live in The Netherlands is because same sex marriage is legal there.

I have investigated and I'd have to pass a Dutch test and a culture test( a video about the Netherlands), then apply for the visa and It's not like Canada & Australia for points. There other things they consider. an MVV is like a long term VISA to stay in The Netherlands for 1 year max. In the end of the 1 year you can leave or you can stay there if you have a job, debts, banking accounts and other ties to the Netherlands. It's not easy but it's better than stay here and: live with constant, extreme and rampant crime and never have the chance to get married(even if I don't believe in marriage, just to say that that's discriminatory).

However, I saw this forum and I wanted to ask because Here I can find people who know about this issue a lot more than me.

I think that the main advantage of Australia is that I would not have to learn another language(in the case of NL is Dutch) and I like Australia is really far from where I am and this way I would not even think about the horrible country where I was born in

So, I'll listen to your advices

All countries will have racist people. They will be everywhere, so you can't let them hold you back.

I'd say your best bet might be the USA if you have a good grasp of English and other languages. That way your degree could get you a job working branches in other countries that you speak the language (for instance, you work for an investment firm that has a branch in Spain/Italy etc. and you can go work there for good pay simply because you know the language).

Good luck! (I'm sort of in the same situation. I'm in the USA, but I want to move out and I'm 99% sure I'm going to university in Switzerland)

hello eduardo, try Philippines. You can stay as long as you have money to pay the rental fees boarding house or apartment. You can also study. I know you have money so you can afford to pay the bills.

I really want to thank all the people who answered this post.
I need a new life... I know it might sound stupid but i need a new life...
This place with the social crisis & crime is depressing
My parents are depressing

I don't know when but for now. I'll just live my life and try to go on (taking precautions) and when I can leave, I will... I'm also saving some money that I'll need when I have to go
