Smile cost of living in goa?

I wondered if anyone can help with some advice. My wife and I aged 40 and 42 are considering moving to goa for an indefinite period as we have heard that the cost of living is inexpensive. Between us we will have around £1000 per month to live on and wondered if that will be enough to get by. We have no idea yet of the costs of renting somewhere long term and how much to budget for food and drinkypoos(we like lots of both) and electric bills, transport and the like.
Anyone living there now? who can reassure us. We are going in september 07 onwards.

Thank you very much for your reply. We are pleased that we will be able to afford to live in goa and we are interested to hear that it is possible to buy a property for 10k as we could obtain a sum like that if we wanted to. We will probably try and rent initially to see how it goes. I dont suppose you have any contacts for accommodation that we could rent from september. Long term and reasonable rates in a decent neighborhood if poss.

What would be the minimum to rent a small house or apartment, do you think? I was in Goa in 2005. Have prices gone up much or are they pretty stable. Would $1000 US (that's 500 GBP) be enough for a single person to live comfortably?

Default Live Life KingSize

Hi.
You will have 1000 GBP per month. Trust me you can live life King Size. Now it depends what level of living standard you carry here. I am living in Bangalore and never been to GOA. So cannot provide you exact information but I can provide you an idea about the expenses as per Bangalore. Bangalore is one of the most costliest City in India so you can understand that whatever estimates I am sharing below will be on much higher side as compared to GOA.
----------------------------------------------
House Rent(1BHK)-Fully Furnished 10000(This is also high rent. You can get it in posh areas loaded with all basic amenities)
Electricity Bill 1500 (Assuming you using A/C)
Cooking Gas 300
Grocery Items 2000
Cable TV 250
Internet+Telephone 500
Drinking Water 1200
----------------------------------------------
Total Rs 15750
----------------------------------------------
That means you are left with Rs. 64,250.00(803 GBP approx).

So no worries and njoy your stay in Goa. Food,Clothing are damn cheap(as per your currency I guess). If you buy a branded Jeans for yourself you can get it easliy well within 18 GBP, Shirts 12 GBP. Since you are on a indefinite time, though public transport would be very very cheap, yet I would recommend you to buy a second hand Car. You can get a 1-4 Years old Small-Size Car for Rs 1,00,000-3,00,000(1250-3750 GBP) Depending upon year of make, type and other items.

Liquor here is damn cheap. Food it depends. If you cook yourself it will cost you nothing. If you dine out daily then it depends where you go.
1. Very Good Restaurant Rs 500/- For 2 person
Wine Rs 500/- For 2 Person*
So Rs 1000/- Total = 12 GBP For 2 persons
* Depends what you take and how much
2. Five Start Hotels then it may cost you around Rs 2000/- = 25 GBP

Again above figures I think are on higher side.
All other Daily Use Stuffs are cheap.
I hope this information would help you bit in your planning. Whatever I have shared is based on my experience and understanding and don't take it as an expert advise. In short I would say 1000 GBP is more than enough even if you live very lavishly here.
Bye Bye and have a great time in GOA.

Hi

BEWARE about buying property in Goa ....... It is nigh on impossible for a foreign national to purchase a property AND the land legally in Goa. If you go forward and purchase you may find yourself with big problems, never actually being able to register the property in your name.

I would never think of buying in another country unless I was really confident that their property laws would protect me. Even then, I'd probably stick to countries where I thought the laws wouldn't change. Mexico once appropriated all foreign owned property, so other countries could do the same.

The Great Valencia Land Grab (LRAU) ..... it happens in Spain also in some areas, when people think they are completely safe

Hi all,

Thinking of moving to Goa 1st December, job offered pays minimum of thousand pounds sterling tax free with bonuses.

Is that a feasible amount to live comfortably in your eyes?
