Living and working in Philippines

I would suggest that you take a look at Cebu instead of Manila. The expat community is tighter here, the city is much less crowded and there is more of what you would expect in terms of Pacific Island living going on in this part of the Philippines. All that being said, Cebu is becoming a prosperous and sophisticated Industrial / Commercial city as well. You might find that it is the right recipe for the Philippines.

If you (or anyone else) would like to discuss Cebu with me, let me know. I am a British expat and I run a real-estate business here. I can help find nice rental property, or just point you in the right direction if you just need some tips or whatever.

I did live in Cebu for 6 month in 2005. For me it was not good at all.There are some expat's which did give me completely wrong information about Cebu. Especially a group called "Living in the PH....' There motivation is mostly propaganda and commercial. Cebu does not have the advantages of a big city like Manila, but it does have all the disadvantages. It is very polluted (as is Manila) and extremely hot and humid practically all year round. My advice is: Be very careful! Before deciding if, and where, to live in the Ph. Do make an extensive visit in different parts of the country. Do talk with people which made a free choice to live in this country and not only because low cost of living, or girly Bar's.
This post does not mean to bash the author of the quote, which may not be part of the kind mentioned above. But, please understand that I am kind of confused when I do read such positive things about Cebu, which has been a such a negative experience for myself.
