Freelance journalist needing a visa for Hungary

Hi,

I am a freelance journalist from Canada. I want to go to Hungary and freelance from there but need to know what visa I can apply for as a freelancer. I won't be working for a company - I will be writing stories and pitching them to companies probably outside of Hungary (canadian, British and American media companies mostly).

I have read that Hungary has a self-employment visa, which I would think I can apply for but it seems I would need to have a copy of a contract for work, which I don't have. Also, I have called the embassy to enquire about the visa and they didn't know what I was talking about, so it may not be offered anymore.

I am wondering what visa would allow me to work in Hungary as a freelancer without having a job or contract work and what documents or arrangements (insurance, bank statements, living arrangements??) I would need to make prior to getting there to prove I can support myself. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
