Default Do i need a work permit too?

Hi All,

I am a married woman from India. My husband has got a job in Rotterdam, netherlands and he has been filed under "highly skilled migrants" category by his employer.
I am currentlt working in an Indian company. I wanted to ask whether a work permit is required for me also, since i dont have any job currently in Netherlands and will be looking for
a job when we reach there. we will be travelling in 1st week of dec.

What are the visa requirements for me if I am coming along as his wife, without any job? Also, can I search and apply for a job later on, or will I need to register for a diff visa category then?
Do I need to change the name on my passport since it still has my maiden surname (surname before marriage)?

Looking forward to your replies.
Take Care

Normally, if your husband's employer is arranging for a visa and work permit for your husband, they should at the same time arrange for a spouse or dependent visa for you. Now, if the visa for your husband is tied to his job in the Netherlands, chances are that your dependent's visa will not allow you to work. (This is the "trailing spouse" phenomenon.)

You need to ask your husband's employer what the conditions will be on your visa. It should not be necessary to change the name on your passport, but you'll probably need to submit some proof of your marriage (marriage certificate, for example) when they apply for your visa.
Cheers,
Bev
