Of course almost ANYWHERE other than some areas of Metro-Manila or Cebu City are CHEAPER than Boracay Island but then again where's the BEACH?? And I doubt anywhere except for the BIG city is there such an incredible diversity or the ever growing and forever changing expat social scene here on Boracay. Granted major tourist destinations nor beach life aren't for everyone.

Default cheers

Hi Shoganai / guys

Thanks for the feedback, it is good to get some info. I know a little bit about how the culture works in Thailand but nothing at all about the Philippines.

Just a point of clarity. Can you just come in on a normal tourist visa and extend this for 18 months? Do you have to get these from the consulate in your own country, for me that is britian, or do you just enter the country normaly and get your stay extended over there? After the 18 month can you leve the country and then re-enter on another 18month tourist visa? If so how long do you have to leave for? do these cost money??

I will check out a couple of places you reccommeded on the web, hopefully I should be on hols there round the October November time and then I can check things out on the ground. As a general rule is the country safe for ex pats. I know in Thailand there can be a problem with burglaries but violece to ex pats is rare there.

Cheers

Shaun

Sales information seems to indicate that nice units are available in this price range everywhere, but I'm not sure that they are.
In Bali, meals are readily available at $2-3 (you can spend a lot more if you wish)
Is this the same in PI or would you need to spend a lot more to avoid some serious gastro.
you probably need to move into the country side ( the provences ..) there you wont have any problem renting for 4 to 5000 per month ,and a lot better place to live

Default accommodation hotels etc

hi guys

Still trying to find my way around this site and not too sure how to start a new thread so just jumped on the back of this one. I am thinking of retiring in the Philippines and I am coming over for a bit of a look around. I have four places on my hit list so far, Manilla obviously as I am landing there, Angel City, Vegan and Cebu. Could anyone please reccommend some reasonable hotels in these areas and what sort of prices we would be looking at? Also as well if anyone knows of a must see area please let me know.

One further question what is the protocol for getting from Manilla Airport to the city centre, this I find in most countries is where you can get suckered the most, what is the average cost and are there taxi meters and are these the best cheapest and most reliable way to travel.

Any general info would be much appriciated, standard tourist traps, rip offs, and any really nice places would be good.

thanks for your help.

Kuro
