Default Moving from Bangalore to Melbourne in July 2012

I received my VISA 175 in April and have started looking for jobs ever since. There have been no interviews/leads. I don't see the situation changing by sitting here in India and so, I've decided to travel to Melbourne to find a job.

I have a 4 month old baby and I don't think I can afford to take my family there without a job. The plan is to stay for a month or two and then call them over.

Any of you have job hunting experiences you wish to share? I'm very nervous with the move. Booking tickets for ~15th July.

Thanks!

Applied Visa: 31/01/2011
CO appointed: Sept 2011
Documentation and health submitted in MARCH 2012 (as wife was pregnant)
VISA grant April 2012
Initial entry date needs to be before 27 December 2012

hi mohak

you will do fine, i cam here when my daughter was 8 months old, it wasn't easy but it was totally worth it. we came as a family, all 3 of us, stayed at a friend's and shared expenses. moved to our own place in a month but had it not been for my daughter, it would have been very depressing, kids keep you busy and you do look forward to seeing their smile which changes your mindset immediately .

I shared my experience in a thred, I'm here...my experience so far and befor moving i posted a thread, preparations so far.. check these out, there is heaps of info, lots of reading but will be totally worth it, specially when it comes to a lil one. Make sure you download latest immunisation chart and keep your lil one updated, my daughter had to get 10 shots when we came here one after the other, over a span of a few months.

As for job, if you are an IT pro, you will get it soon, takes a month but you will eventually get it. If you are in any other field, it will take little time, a couple of months probably.

key is to make your cv according to the job advertised, make a cover letter that is common for all but change it according to the job applying for, and follow up, you have to call them, they get 100+ cvs in a day, if you get lucky they will look into your cv, if not they wont even bother nd yes you have to be onshore to get a job, but many manage getting one offshore as well.

make as many contacts on linkedin as you can, get as many recommendations as you can. a lot of openings dont even come on seek, they just fill them form linkedin or internal references.

mail a few consultants that advertise regularly on seek for your skill, write to them and registering with them.

Thank you very much for your reply and encouragement.

I find it very difficult to navigate this forum but I'd hint down your posts and read it all at ease. I am a Websphere specialist. I got many calls for jobs last month but no response after that. On follow up, most consultants advised that it is very difficult when offshore. Hence I decided to move. But I can't stay there for more than a month without a job (financially).

Fingers crossed I find a job soon and can call my wife and baby to come over soon too

Thanks again.

If you did hear from them, I am sure you will hear from them once you land here but dont take too much pressure, trust me, one tends to work better without pressure. You will eventually find it, you have to give it a month or two. This risk you have to take, no matter what..

Thanks! I'll do just that. Also, I've looked at your posts about your experience so far- ill be making notes from there once home later today.
I have a bank account in Melbourne. Also have friends who I can share rooms with. What do you use to call India? I have an Australian mobile number but it's expensive to call India using that one.

My daughter, Xena has got all her vaccination done in India. Do you suppose she will need more? Could you pl share a link with the Australian vaccination chart?

Thank you!

I normally skype but if at all i have to call someone, i use Lyca.

Xena is a beautiful name . As for vaccines, yeah attached one is download the latest one from the council's website. take it to the doc, ask him to make a list of vaccines he has given already and ones tht he has not out of this list, try to get them and take a letter, this was one thing i did not do and my daughter, poor thing, had to get so many of them.. ignore the second page, it has schedule of immunisation days for the area wehre I stay, the first page has all the info.

One vaccine tht every child and parents get here is whooping cough, we went to royal children hospital the first time and they gave it, we asked them to and they were happy to give us a shot each. Anika got 4 shots the first time, one of whooping cough and 3 more, cant recall which, had I seen this schedule, i wouldnt have to get it done plus having a letter from teh doc stating which shot is what as compared to Au standards helps a lot..

From Bangalore. I would be staying the CBD. I will write to you as and when there is an update. Once my wife Bhakti and daughter Xena are with me, we can all plan a get-together .
