Smile Help...Moving to Davao from Australia

G'Day

I am moving to Davao hopefully soon, to marry, anyone got any information on, what are the requirements for moving a container of houshold furniture, and how easy is it to get a visa so I can live there.

Cheers Dassie

Hi Dassie and welcome. I have no information on the container. There should be freight companies where you are that can help.
Anyone with information on containers from Australia that can help this gentleman, please jump in here...

Once married, you can apply for permanent residency here. It will cost about P35,000 and then your yearly fee to stay is around $5.00us dollars only. Until then, you will need to renew your visitors visa every two months and would have to leave the country and return after being here two years.

There are no restrictions on shipping. You can send anytime--but in the strongest possible way I would suggest to send it so that it arrives AFTER YOU DO--NOT BEFORE.
Too much chance of her family getting into it and things WILL go missing. Also, if there are any problems (as there often is with customs) you are here to deal with it.

On a safety stand point it would be a good idea also to read the travel advisory for Mindanao that is posted on your embassy website as well as the US embassy, Manila site before committing on the move to that area...

It is not worth the cost.

we are about to build a house in Davao and the cost of a container is prohibitive.

we currently live in Ballarat

have a garage sale and buy all new furniture.

send some items in balakbayan boxes

when my filipina wife and I arrive in the Philippines we request a balaknayan visa which allows me a 12 month stay.

all you need is a copy of your marriage certificate when you arrive at immigration.

two tips

chose a line with a female officer, the men are useless

NEVER arrive at terminal 1 on a Thursday night like we did a few weeks ago after flying Royal Brunei. total chaos which took us over an hour to exit.

previous trip we arrived on a Tuesday and it was fine.

we were advised by our pickup lady that Thursday is always chaos

Royal Brunei is very cheap (half Philippines) and you can get a 3 hour stopover in Brunei (would not advise the 10 hour stopover alternative unless ypur are a masochist. there is NOTHING at the Brunei terminal, but you can get free wifi)

Geoff
