Hi Jon,

That's very true-no vaccine for any form of dengue on the market. Seems I read an article not too long ago that Glaxo-Smith Kline was supposed to be close to a vaccine for testing. Do you have info on that? Sure would save lots of lives.

Gene,

No I do not have any info on that. Dengue has become a global issue and has recently reached the U.S. (CA & FL). Maybe that will drive the drug companies/scientific community to find a cure.

There has been some experimentation with the mosquitoe species that carries the disease. Only method of prevention that is available is to not get bit by an infected mosquito. Control standing water in your area. This particular species is active generally between 0800 & 1600.

I have known 2 people to have had it (both took almost 60 days to recover).

Jon

Yea, it's amazing and seems like here in the islands there would be no way to get rid of it being so tropical.
We live over close to Angeles and use two bug lights that we bought over at Marquee Mall. Very few mosquitoes in the house to worry about but still darned careful. Ah well, I'd rather deal with the mosquitoes than the road rage or drive by shootings etc back in LA-Hahaha...

Gene,

Yep (on the road rage).

Key thing is to manage trash (cans, tires, leaves), potted plants & drains for small pools of water (around 1 cup or better). Anywhere that algea can grow quick (no fish n warm).

You could also take B vitamins (helps your body produce natural mosquito repellent)
