Question Looking for Work in Egypt

Hi all, I am not to sure about this site, no one has responded to my first post; thought I would try again. My husband wants me to move to Egypt...in order to do that I NEED A JOB. I have searched the web and come up relatively flat. The job should be in Hurghada or Luxor (we could live in either place). I have experience teaching English as a Second Language and have sent my resume and letter of recommendation to a couple of schools but have heard nothing. Any ideas, leads or even job offers LOL? Tried to attach my resume and letter of recommendation from my employer in Japan where I taught ESL...couldn't do it...if interested let me know and I'll email you copies.

You shouldn't have any trouble getting some kind of job in Egypt teaching English if you have some experience and some qualifications. But the salary won't be good. Best thing is probably to go there and make enquiries on the spot - Egyptians don't necessarily use the internet as much as they might. They are not good at replying to emails in my experience. You could try phoning some of the English Language Schools but make sure you are calling the right kind of school - a lot of regular schools call themselves English Language Schools but that just means they use English as the means of communication.

Everyone in Egypt wants to learn English. Private tuition could also be an option.

Good luck,
Deeana

I assume you are an American. Did you ever move to Hurghada, or are you still thinking about it?

I am an American offering a teaching assistant job in a French school but it is more or less in Cairo. The assistant must be fluent or native speaker of English and like working with kids.

Default As for Teaching...

I am currently teaching in Cairo. If you're still looking for a job. It is much easier to get a job at a school once you're here. Schools see a high turn over rate of foreign teachers and in turn are skeptical of hiring from abroad. Having said that, again if you're still looking, if you sign a contract once you're here make sure you sign a foreign hire contract not a domestic hire contract or you can kiss respectable pay and any chance of a plane ticket once a year good-bye. If you have any questions let me know.

Susie

Hi Salma,

I'm in same position as you, moving to Hurghada in December, flat is all sorted and been sending my CV to anyone and everyone I can think of, schools, hotels, banks, clubs etc etc. Been told its easier once you are actually there, would be nice to go to something though! When are you moving?

You will find far fewer job options outside of tourism in Luxor and Hurghada than you will find in the Cairo or Alexandria areas. It is the nature of the beast. Most businesses and schools are located in or near the two big cities. There are schools in Hurghada/Gouna but I'm not at all sure what the situation in Luxor is like.

Charleen,
I'm an American living in Egypt. I'm looking for a position with a school for the next school year. Would you mind providing more information?

Thank you.

Hey Charleen,

I'm British and about to move to Egypt, I'd also be interested. Any information would be great.

Thanks,

Tom
