Microbiology job in Auckland

I have lived in Greenhithe for 3.5 years and have a background in Microbiology and software engineering, with BS degrees (Calif., U.S.A.) in both. I have 20 years experience in microbiology/lab and 10 years experience as a Java software engineer. I have no friends and just my husband and need some kind of network of friends or job. Anyone know of some contacts? So far, I have found New Zealand to be very cold in the job arena and am desparately trying to make a "go" of it.
