Finding job while in NZ

Hi,

Looking to move to NZ in near future. Have decided to visit at end of May as I have secured some interviews by e-mailing employers direct and registering with recruitment agencies. Want to make the most of the time we'll be there so does anyone have any other ideas of where to look for jobs whilst I'm there ? Are there job centres or specialists that deal in new immigrants looking for work, I am a Die Setter/Plastics Technician and will go where the work is. Any other tips on a successful move would also be welcome! Cheers

We deal with new skilled immigrants all the time and I see the trouble they have with traditional recruitment consultants. They want to get a fee from placing you, Usually up to 15%of your annual salary. This combined with the logistics and immigration questions surrounding hiring an international candidate takes the shine off your resume next to that of a locally based candidate of comparitive skill. If the recruitment agent finds it too hard they simply turn their attention to another candidate.

If you cant afford to hire a professional to handle your job placement and immigration work I would recommend you get as much of the immigration work done as possible yourself prior to your job search so the employers see you are proactive. SEARCH for employers in your field and approach them, even if they are not advertising, you could be just the person they need. We see many jobs that go unadvertised. Best of luck !!!
