Auckland is a bit sprawly, but there are some really lovely places just outside in the suburbs.

Wellington is known as 'wet and windy'

Tauranga is probably drier, and another place to look for good weather is Hawkes Bay (Napier & Hastings), or Nelson (top of South Island). Keep an eye out for microclimates - all those mountains do peculiar things to the weather systems!

Thanks - v. helpful! The 'Bays' are definitely appealing now - but I guess we're going to have to go where the work is - DH is a Construction Manager so close proximity to a city is probably in order, unless there's lots of building work or some mid-tier construction co's in the bays!

Thanks again..

Australia is totally changing it's immigration policy. rumors are persisting that the Trans Tasmin agreement may be on the scrapping pile so even if you spend all this time in NZ you may still end up not being able to come to Australia.

New Zealand is a lovely place but theres no denying that it's second by a long way in turns of work and opportunities.

My employer is a multi national company with offices in New Zealand and Australia. I have visited our Sydney office and was very pleased with Australia. In comparison New Zealand is the poor cousin that nobody takes seriously

My company is an Australian company. Unfortunately Australia does seem to take our requirements into account less. Doesn't mean to say they're better than us - just means they think they are

Our New Zealand office is failing though.

We simply do not have enough work there, and my duty it to help turn it round otherwise it will either be sold off or closed down within a year.

The Australian office is thriving and they should send someone over to sort out New Zealand but they're working flat out and can spare no one.

My only hope is that I can do a good job. Savee my career from the toilet and get out quickly.

Good luck with that - it's frustrating, isn't it? I think a PR job on NZ is needed in Australia.

If you're going in with such a negative attitude then you're going to struggle, it might not be ideal, it might not be everything you want but you need to go into it with an open mind.
