Default moving to New Zealand

Hi to all,
I'm currently living in Crete, Greece.
Both my children are thinking of moving to Australia so I'm also thinking of moving but not to Australia.
Can someone give me an idea of property rental prices in South Island, vague I know but this is a new idea and I haven't looked into where I may want to live just yet. I'm retired and will be making this move alone so would want to be in or near a town. I love walking and swimming and the outdoor life.
Hope to hear from you
Thanks
Carol

Why the South Island? It has most of the famous attractions, but it's pretty rainy. The North Island has some nice areas, too. Don't dismiss it entirely.

Move to Hamilton on the North Island. It is fabulous. You will not regret it. It suits the English taste and has green rolling hills and coastline 30 mins away. I sell Real estate here now so ring me (0064 27 307 9274)or email me (nigel.sherwen@xtra.co.nz) if you need help with renting or buying.

Hi Amanda,

A friend of ours used Four Corners based in Cheadle but they did feel that they had to pay money for things which they could have done themselves.
We didn't use an agency but went through the process ourselves. It was pretty simple in our case but this was almost 8 years ago so the points system and requirements were probably set little lower.
Which category are you thinking of applying for? Will gladly help out with any questions - will have to dig out the paperwork as it's all a hazy memory now!
By the way - my hometown is Ashton-Under-Lyne in good old Lancashire!
Good luck.

Hi, The age thing is really difficult, the points available drop rapidly the older you are. Seems strange as you would thing they would encourage people with life experience but they are just thinking if you would be a drain on the health system! Looking for work is a good way to go - we do have a shortage of tradesmen but of course the building / plumbing trades are different than the uk as houses are built differently (with very few houses having central heating!).
You mentioned Tony was your 'partner' - married? We were married and that made things so much easier as we could apply under general with my hubby being the main applicant (as he has the Uni degree) and I was able to contribute a few points to bump it up.
Take a look at trademe.co.nz - they have a jobs section - don't let the low wages put you off (they are a bit of a shock until you get a feel for the cost of living). Good luck.

Thanks for that we are going to have a look today

Did I mention that my son is living in Australia and has nearly been resident for two years but because we have 4 cildren even though they are over the ages of 22 and are not dependant we would not pass the oz balance test for parents.
We are not married and I just wanted to think what you would think about this I have already spoken to a migration consultnt and they said it does happen but for obvious reasons she was telling me this off the record

Firstly I myself could go on a contributory parent visa it would cost about £12,000 plus about £4,000 assurance of support, but I would have to completely seperate all my ties to Tony my partner.
But thenhe would need to go on a seperate visiting visa for a period of time and evedntually I would sponsor him
What do you think
