Default Is Nelson a good place to live?

We currently live in Christchurch - moved here from the UK nearly three years ago, but we are now thinking of moving elsewhere in NZ.

Is there anybody out there who lives in Nelson or has lived there? We have holidayed there a few times - obviously, visiting is not the same as living, so any information or advice about living in Nelson would be great to hear about, positives and negatives - best areas to live in Nelson, primary and high schools etc ...

Cheers

Oh I like Christchurch, it's a good place - just considering moving on, every time we've been to Nelson, we love it and if we can get work there, we would definately consider shifting, would like to know what other people think, who have lived there or currently live there.
Cheers

Hi - Have you lived in Christchurch? Whereabouts? Why did you not like it?

Hi there

We have just left Nelson after our trip to South Island (and were looking with a view of moving). Here's our opinion: it seems very nice, but is not huge. There's a main road that runs round the coast, so most of the suburbs are slightly in-land. Our choice would be Motueka, though - just round the coast and near Abel Tasman. A very nice little town, with a decent supermarket (New World), a hospital (albeit small) and other essential shops.

We'll have an opportunity to semi-retire in a couple of years, and are just looking at our options.

It would have to be somewhere quite special to make us do it though - and it would have to have the fantastic view we currently have from our house too!
