Remember that if you have paid National Insurance for less than 9 years, women, or 11 years, men, you will get no pention atall from the UK when you retire. You can, however buy extra years to bring you up to these levels. At 9 and 11 years of payments completed you will be entitled to 25% of the full pension on reaching retirement age, however it will be frozen at that rate for the rest of your life if you are moving to most of the Commonwealth countries, including Australia, Canada, South Africa, New Zealand, and a lot more..
You will be OK in Europe and the USA and a few more.

The whole subject of the fight by UK Pensioners for Parity, and their appeal to the European Court of Human Rights heard on September 2nd this year, is covered by the Internet, again searcch Google. The ECHR is expected to bring down its judgement about March 2010.
Take Care.
Good point, Yeomanoz.

And to add to the other end of the age spectrum, if you have paid UK National Insurance for over 30 years and are retiring AFTER 10 April 2010, you are already entitled to a full UK pension.

See Do you need to top up your National Insurance contributions? : Directgov - Pensions and retirement planning

As Yeomanoz says, when you get to NZ, this is frozen - i.e. the amount the UK government gives you will not increase. But if it's less than the NZ equivalent pension it will be topped up.

No I haven't. But be careful not to fall foul of the advertising constraints on this forum. If it's advertising your own business, then it won't pass.

Thanks, but I don't run a business. My web site is free and sells nothing. It just contains advice, for any UK residents moving overseas, concerning the UK policy of freezing pensions if they move to certain countries. The whole 155 frozen countries are listed, also the 46 countries who are granted annual indexation of their pensions.

You might care to give me a link on your New Zealand site. You can find it by doing a google search for Pension Parity, earlier today we were No One. [personal link removed by moderator]
That's very useful - thanks for that, Yeomanoz

Hey Forum Moderators - could we have this link? It would be v e r y useful to us out there who are looking at other countries and do get a pension! Would you reconsider including the link since it is not commercial?

thanks for anything -

Sorry the rules are there to protect members. We don't have the capability to check people's sites to see if they change or even if they are accurate which is why we tend to leave government websites but zap personal ones.

Yeomanoz if you read the forum rules or look at other members posts (such as topcat83) you'll see what ways are allowed for advertising and what ways are not.

Regardless of whether or not a website is commercial if we let one member plaster posts all over the forum then loads of others will want to do it too. You have had a lot of leniency over this - even if it does not appear so to you and others - since you could have been banned as a spammer with the way you were initially acting.

Find out how you can add a single link into your signature as a normal member (there are premium memberships too).

If you aren't happy with the way you have been treated (or any other member for that matter) can always click on the 'contact us' link at the bottom of the page to contact the owner of the forum. All moderators are volunteers and we follow the rules of the forum.

Regards,
Karen

And I see I fell foul of the forum rules this time too I didn't realise the last link I posted was a commercial one - was blinded by the information!

If anyone has questions about the forum rules you can simply ask us
We do understand them although they can be interpreted differently.

yeomanoz - put simply you are allowed a one line link in your signature (which is why I suggested looking at topcat83's signature).

The signature appears in all posts (if you set it up that way) and it can be to your own website as a standard member.

I'm happy to let you know how to set this up but links in posts will tend to get zapped whereas links in signatures tend to be allowed if they follow the rules.

I'm not a standard member which is why my signature is different again.

Regards,
Karen
